That and badges are meaningless I suppose when your rac is over 15 million, I noticed you have another project you contributed over 5 billion credits too. I don't do it for badges my next is so far away, I crunch for the science my credits I like for my team The PC Perspective Killer Frogs and I found this mascot depiction on dc-vault.com stats site years ago

My point was, we all crunch for science -whatever the motive may be

Yep. The only question is whether the science is the primary goal or whether the credits are the primary goal and the science is just a byproduct. Either way, the science still gets done.

Ahh but to get the science done we need people to give up their resources HERE, not someplace else. Sometimes breadcrumbs are a necessary evil to attract those that might otherwise choose to be elsewhere.

They are having the same discussion at other projects, one newer idea is not just credit badges but also badges that show you have found something, ie a prime number at PrimeGrid. I have no idea how that would work here at Collatz though.

WCG has expanded their badges to cover 100 years of PC crunching time.
I wonder if anyone already has a 100 year badge?

It's not bad to prepare for the future.

20 PCs crunching for 5 years = 100 year's crunching. That wouldn't be that hard to do for people with large farms who crunch a single project.

Or even for those with rooms full of pc's, 100 pc's in just one year. And yes there are people that have access to that kind of resource and more, and are crunching.

It is probably determined by seconds crunched, add a 8 core machine with 3 GPUS's crunching multiple units and you can get there fairly fast.

I had not even thought of gpu crunching, yes you CAN get there pretty quickly.

WCG hasn't had a GPU project in over a calendar year.

Go to http://www.wcgsig.com/ look at the top people and click on the "badges" column to view their WCG page. So yes, there are people with multiple 100+ year sub-projects.

Because it run on a computer with hundreds of thousands of us all trying to connect to it, ANY pc would fail sometimes under those circumstances.
