I released v4.09 for OS X w/ NVidia GPUs for mini_collatz, collatz, and solo_collatz applications. I could use a few people to help test the OS X AMD OpenCL application and, assuming Apple supports OpenCL for Intel GPUs, help with testing that also.

I will test them today.

I think Intel has released the OpenCL GPU driver for only windows.

Testing it requires renaming the app from ..._opencl_nvidia to ...__opencl_amd and wrapping it in an app_info.xml. Or, I can just install the OS X AMD apps and hope for the best and shut it down later if it isn't working. But that's usually more a Microsoft method of testing. ;-)

OS X 10.6.8 does not appear to be working with the NVidia OpenCL app. That could be because the app was compiled using OS X 10.8.2. Regardless, the scheduler has been updated so it should no longer send the new OpenCL apps to 10.6.8 (Darwin 10.8.0) hosts.

Any chance of an ATI capable version for OS X?

Are you crunching other projects with it as well? I believe the errors is due to the device not being available. That could happen if BOINC switches from another project and the app hasn't shut down completely at the time BOINC launches the new app. That's just a theory though.

A solo app has been added for opencl_ati. Test away. Once I see decent results, I'll announce it in a separate new post.

Hi gang started testing yesterday an today . Also testing the 7.2.5 x64 boinc app as well . My six core AMD an ATI card are showing no errors so far . My older AMD duel core x 86 no errors , my NIVDIA card is to old to support. I am using the 7.064 x 86 app no speed increase . Will continue to test for a few days an give update.

My development/test box has an NVidia 8400 GS in it. That's about the minimum that can crunch. It took 46 hours to complete a solo WU on it though and is too sluggish to allow crunching while the machine is in use. Then again, new GPUs are 200+ times faster so that is to be expected.

I changed the scheduler so that OS X 10.6.x will no longer get the opencl_nvidia apps. It looks like I will have to do the same for the ATI GPUs. I'm not sure if I can compile a 10.6 version (w/ OpenCL 1.0) on OS X 10.8 but if I can, I will have separate apps for OS X 10.6. I hope that works since the only other option is the buggy 3.x opencl_osx app.

I compiled v4.10 with the OS X 10.6 SDK so it should work with 10.6.x or higher now. Then again, I seem to recall that Apple didn't support OpenCL for ATI GPUs until either 10.7 or 10.8.

I've been trying to track down the -30 error when calling clCreagteCommandQueue and came across these comments:

It works, but ONLY after a fresh restart of my machine. Once the MacBook has gone to sleep I can't create command queues anymore until after the next reboot.

and also

I have the same problem w/ my rMBP. I can create/destroy the OCL context & queue ~ 25 times, and then it fails and I have to reboot the machine. This happened on 10.8, 10.8.1 and now 10.8.2. I can send you a test to verify the problem if you want, let me know.

I opened a radar #12186778 at Apple, no response so far, though. Please open a radar as well, the more the higher the chance it gets fixed RSN

4.10 for Ati seems to be running fine on 7870 XT : http://boinc.thesonntags.com/collatz/results.php?hostid=130881

I was wondering why system 35W less power solo_collatz on OS X than on Windows but I just noticed that cpu usage seems to be much lower on OS X

Is the GPU load any less? Or is that the same on both?

I can't monitor gpu usage on OS X but judging by the temperatures they are probably same.

Added 4.11 apps for solo_collatz. Still trying to get rid of the error 11 on OS X 10.6.x and 10.7.x. The only difference from 4.10 are the gcc flags.
