Turkey turkey sandwich... Hmmm....
Now I'm Hungary again...

I prefer goose or duck, so long as the fat can drain off when it is roasted. I don't like it swimming in Greece.

I too have started crunching the solo units, they are taking twice as long ans I am getting twice the credits for them, bug they too ARE validating! That means I am now WINNING!!!

Uploadin', loadin', loadin'
Though the server's strollin'
Keep them packets rolling
Collatz!

RAM and disk and yes its
Hell bent for credits
GPU here right by my side.

All the things I'm lurvin'
Reading mail and surfin'
But no uploads I can't abide

Load 'em down, do the work
Swop the RAM, switch the task
Do the work, load 'em up
Collatz!
Send 'em in, count the stats
Check the creds, send 'em out
Read account, still no change
Collatz!

Keep crunchin', crunchin', crunchin'
Though their servers lunchin'
Keep them packets movin'
Collatz!

Don't try to understand 'em
Just download and crunch 'em
Soon we'll be postin' high and wide
Our hearts will be roastin'
And we'll all be postin'
"Why does their server have to hide?"

Load 'em down, do the work
Swop the RAM, switch the task
Do the work, load 'em up
Collatz!
Send 'em in, count the stats
Check the creds, send 'em out
Read account, still no change
Collatz!

(Just a convoluted way of saying I'm getting "Tue 03 Dec 2013 04:57:28 GMT | Collatz Conjecture | [error] Error reported by file upload server: File uploads are temporarily disabled.")

TOO LATE I am up and WINNING!!!

@Sandj do you have Nvidia drivers loaded on your pc? The reason I ask is when I check out one of my Nvidia cards at a different site I see this:
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti (1024MB) driver: 327.23

But when I look at your pc I see this:
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti (1023MB) OpenCL: 1.01

No driver number just the fact that your card is 1.01 opencl capable. None of your actual gpu tasks have validated either, just your solo tasks that I am guessing are running on your cpu.

@Sandj do you have Nvidia drivers loaded on your pc? The reason I ask is when I check out one of my Nvidia cards at a different site I see this:
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti (1024MB) driver: 327.23

But when I look at your pc I see this:

No driver number just the fact that your card is 1.01 opencl capable. None of your actual gpu tasks have validated either, just your solo tasks that I am guessing are running on your cpu.

For a long time I ran with the latest NVidia drivers and continued to do so up to version 319.32

However, I got fed up with the need to fix the PC every time a kernel update was issued. Sometimes it was only a small faff to get it working again and sometimes a major faff. So I gave up trying to use the latest NVidia drivers. Now I make do with the proprietary version offered by my distro, which is 310.44 from the nvidia-310-updates package.

You nearly tempted me to try v331.20 to see what happens, but then it all came back to me what happened last time I got into OpenCL and 32/64-bit Boinc packages: I wasted days trying to get it all to work.

In the end I realised: "Hey, why is it some @home projects use my GPU perfectly well, and others don't? Could it be the project at fault and not me?" The GPU is used by PrimeGrid, Milkyway@Home, SETI@home and others.

So I gave up struggling and go with the flow. If, as a consequence, I see things such as:

State: All (35) · In progress (0) · Validation pending (2) · Validation inconclusive (0) · Valid (1) · Invalid (0) · Error (32)

I think: "Tough. I don't care any more. It's my PC and my electricity bill. I've done my bit by providing the hardware."

I've got my various PCs crunching for 17 different projects and I can no longer be bothered trying to optimise for all of them.

However, if I'm missing something obvious and easy, pray do tell.

17 different projects? seriously? I'm only crunching collatz...

Actually I'm finding for a side project to crunch, which project would you suggest?

P.S. you spell "optimize" wrongly :P

If you click on our names on the left you will see a list of the projects we are crunching for and our rac, this should give you an idea of what we like. But as usual it is not a perfectly clear picture...for instance I am putting most of my gpu's right now at a project called DistRTgen, but in another month or so will move on to a different project. They pay SUPER HIGH credits so it is easy to rack up the points! My long term project is MalariaControl.net, but they do not have a gpu app, so it is cpu only. I also do MilkyWay using my cpu's right now. I used to crunch for Poem as they are a chemistry type project and my oldest recently got his PHD in chemistry, but they have so few gpu units that they frequently run out every day. Collatz is my go to project for both cpu and gpu units whenever my regular projects are down or when I am in between projects, they are almost always up and most gpu's just work!!!

I try to limit each of my pc's to one or two projects, but since I too wanted to crunch for multiple projects I now have 15 pc's running here at my home. After a while though I realized I could make a bigger contribution to each project if I focused on a goal and put all my pc's working on a single project towards that goal. Then switching to another project with another goal. Right now I am working on my second billion credits for a project, if a project can't find what it is looking for after one billion credits from a single user it is time to move on, is my thinking. I understand about how projects like DistRTgen, or Collatz, don't work like that, but there are way too many fish in the sea for me to focus on one place for too long.

I will let my signature come thru so you can get an idea of where I have crunched since I started a VERY long time ago.

Only you can decide that. For example:
    - Some people think the disease-related projects are the most important, others think big pharma can afford their own CPU farms.
    - Many support SETI@Home as it was the project that made distributed computing really take off (I wish they would stop sending begging emails - I've been contributing resources to them for over ten years, why should I have to pay too?).
    - Einstein@Home looked exciting when it started up, but it is dragging on.
    - WUProp@Home is a no-brainer because it is free credits.
    - Is weather prediction and climate change modelling the most important project in the world right now?
    - LHC@Home ticks my box for letting me help big physics science.
    - Do you want to run projects that give the most credits per CPU second on your hardware?
    - Or you could be generating Bitcoins.
    - Do you care if the projects are still in Alpha?

BOINCStats is a very useful resource for choosing projects: boincstats.com. Especially if you choose BOINCstatsBAM! as your account manager.

P.S. you spell "optimize" wrongly :P

Here in Airstrip One we tend to use -ise rather than -ize. Has Hong Kong joined the rest of the world in using Amerenglish? (Or is that Ameringlish?)

We use both, it's just my English teacher prefer American so I'm using American this year :P
Also kindda bugged by the American spellcheck

"EXTREME" is a bit vague as a 'catergory'.

I despise these censorship tools with a passion. I see they haven't blocked 'SOCIAL NETWORKING', which is where much of the online damage comes from in school environments (cyber-bullying on FaceBook and the like). If a young person wants to search for "nicotine and cancer" or "can I get pregnant by doing xyz" or "does my xyz look normal" or "

Certainly block all payment mechanisms so nothing can be bought online, and don't have webcams available unsupervised, and by all means disable the USB ports, but why prevent young people from researching and learning in an educational environment?

Does yours block dictionary and thesaurus sites too? Everywhere I have worked that has had a nanny filter has blocked them because they contain naughty words. Surely it would be easier and cheaper to just not provide internet access?

This rant was brought to you Rent-a-Rant Limited™. Guaranteed service with a sneer.

Anyway, I'm winning!

It seems that my school's some how reducing these limitations. For example Quora is banned last year, and I'm surprised to be able to access it last month.
It's quite hard for the school to balance it out, freedom vs crime control, liberal vs conservative...

wops better quit this topic before some rage comment appears.
Christmas' coming! How's everybody readying?
