Apparently my school thinks some of the projects are related to black market or porn...
"EXTREME" is a bit vague as a 'catergory'.

I despise these censorship tools with a passion. I see they haven't blocked 'SOCIAL NETWORKING', which is where much of the online damage comes from in school environments (cyber-bullying on FaceBook and the like). If a young person wants to search for "nicotine and cancer" or "can I get pregnant by doing xyz" or "does my xyz look normal" or "

Certainly block all payment mechanisms so nothing can be bought online, and don't have webcams available unsupervised, and by all means disable the USB ports, but why prevent young people from researching and learning in an educational environment?

Does yours block dictionary and thesaurus sites too? Everywhere I have worked that has had a nanny filter has blocked them because they contain naughty words. Surely it would be easier and cheaper to just not provide internet access?

This rant was brought to you Rent-a-Rant Limited™. Guaranteed service with a sneer.

Anyway, I'm winning!

It seems that my school's some how reducing these limitations. For example Quora is banned last year, and I'm surprised to be able to access it last month.
It's quite hard for the school to balance it out, freedom vs crime control, liberal vs conservative...

wops better quit this topic before some rage comment appears.
Christmas' coming! How's everybody readying?

Schools in my area are struggling with filters too, for instance how can you block the word 'breast' because of porn and then still let people find out about 'breast' cancer? Did you know MEN can get 'breast' cancer too? Many families are struggling with many things kids want to know more about, and when the schools block things it can make things tougher!

My own birthday is just before Christmas, for waay too many years I only got one present from non family members telling me 'this is for both'. All that comes down now to the fact that I am not a Christmas guy, but my wife is so I let her do pretty much anything she wants, but don't help her do it.

As for WINNING you have to look no further then me, as I am WINNING!!!

Boo! Bah! Humbuggery! I razzle-frazzle in their general direction! Ooh, I'm all outraged for you.

My advice to you, sir, albeit very belatedly, is that which I have given to a few others who have complained of being in the same predicament over the years. That is, do as our Queen does and have two birthdays: one quiet one that matches the birth certificate and another official birthday in the summer which is when the big celebration is held.

If it's good enough for 'Er Maj' then it's good enough for the likes of us, I reckon.

(And a common trick for people born on 25th December and 29th February too.)

There is no law that says when you must celebrate your birthday. You could go for exactly 6 months earlier and say you are "rounding to the nearest whole year". However, that might be seen as greedy as it means two birthdays in the year you bring this in. Instead you could go for six months after and say "At my age, I want to be sure the year has bedded in before I claim it."

I am happy to share my birthday with you, 21st June, is it is Midsummer's Day and the longest day. There is something very 'grounding' in being aligned with the Earth's solstice.

Pick the month with the fewest birthdays in your family (other than December and January) and pick a date in that month.

Pick a public holiday and say that is now your adopted birthday. Particularly good fun if it is a moveable feast like Easter. If a religious event suits you, pick a suitable saint's day. If not then you could go through the On This Day web sites (Wikipedia is good for this too) and find an anniversary you relate to: the birth of a composer or someone you hold in high regard.

You did not choose your birthday. Some people didn't even acknowledge it. Reject it and pick another that suits you.

And you don't even need to go public with this: book it off work every year and do something nice with your wife for the day as a "Thank you for making Christmas happen" and go spoil yourselves.

As for WINNING you have to look no further then me, as I am WINNING!!!

What do you think this is, your birthday or summat? Nah, guv, I'M winning. :-D

Shock horror- I'm NOT winning.

(a) I posted twice in a row.

(b) the fan on my GPU has died. ;-(

Oh well, now I know what my project for Friday evening will be. And now I know what the funny grinding noise was earlier.

My doctor called me old so I decided I'm not having any more birthdays, but I'm winning.

And a good win it was too, for me to be WINNING now though your winning time is now over.

@SandJ I am too old to change the celebration date of my birthday now, it just is what it is. As for me 'taking a day off', I fully retired 3 years ago, so EVERY DAY is a 'day off'!!! I retired on disability from my lifes work 12 years ago, but did some part time work for a different place as a computer guy, my hobby, for almost 5 years in between.

My family just putted on the Christmas tree. The plastic one that we used for 10 years or something.
