Manual select in preferences, with CUDA being default, or a) with a manual override.

Basically, if one or the other doesn't work on a particular system, there ought to be a quick and easy way to switch to the other.

Its a wash for me... CUDA sounds good since it uses much less of the CPU, but I prefer OpenCL because my card processes OpenCL WU's faster than CUDA WU's. If I had a choice, that would be even better, so I could choose to drop a core to use OpenCL, or run multiple projects and sacrifice a little time with CUDA. I'd say

option B is my first choice, but I will roll with whatever is best for the project.

I would favour that the user can select if he allows OpenCL or CUDA applications in the Settings (he can use all 4 profiles for grouping his work stations depending on their facilities).
If both applications are allowed by the user, than of course option c) maximize the flow of wu's (that's in the interest of this project).

Me too.

Similar to PG preferences for Genefer. There CUDA works usually better for pre-Kepler GPUs (GTX 5xx and older) and OpenCL on Kepler GPUs. I haven't followed the testing here, so i don't know if it's the same.

a) for me too.

And like other people said, should be a good idea to let a) be the default option of three in the project's preferences.

My 2 cents.

a - I have four macs with old NVIDIA cards (GeForce 9400 and GeForce 320M) and since the project restart they have become very sluggish running C@H GPU tasks (much more sluggish than they were prior to the project restart). I don't care if the change causes a dip in my C@H RAC, as these units collectively account for approximately 5% of my total C@H RAC. In fact, unless something changes soon, I am going to cease crunching C@H GPU tasks on these units - I have already done so for two other macs with old NVIDIA cards (GeForce 9400M and GeForce 320M).

My thoughts exactly, but in my own case, I find the Cuda is faster and uses less wattage. It is simply more efficient all the way around, but then that is just me.

Thanks Slicker. Regards,
William
