For a brief moment I got all excited about using my old COBOL skills again. Shame on you ;-) Now if only I can find my way back to the care home ...

That was excellent thanks - it really woke me up - slightly more confusing though as it didn't appear here till the 14:55 on the first and I didnt' see it till this morning!

will run at a level not seen since Apple IIe and DEC PDP-11s. You won't have to worry that your computer is getting less credits while using the same amount of electricity

so if I cruch it manually on my TI SR51 I will get the same credit?

Edit: Is there a BOINC client available for pocket calculators?
Oh I forgot .. they have no internet access. But I could send the result as an email or sms ...

I had to come out of my self imposed exile to respond to this. This made my day. I had a good long laugh at this one.
Thank you.
Mike.

It took several drafts to blend the realism with the right amount of humor. The first several drafts were so believable that I was worried about a mass exodus if everyone thought it was true.

I only just read this. When I got to:

So, I will be removing all 64-bit Collatz applications.

I must confess my reaction was:

JEZUZFECKINHELL THIS IS JUST AS BAD AS AT WORK!! What is this? A government project? I put up with this kind of stupidity at work, I expect better of the distributed processing community. Aaaarrghh!!

Actually, come to think of it, in the interest of equal opportunity and political correctness, maybe your proposal warrants consideration. Why should the better-advantaged get more credits than those using a pedal-powered PC?

Perhaps one should get credits for downloading the app and downloading work packets. Completing them is not important, it is the participation that counts.

;-)

The majority of BOINC projects are using CreditNew and includes all the largest projects. After much deliberation and more than a few run-ins with the credit cops, Collatz will switch to the CreditNew system beginning tomorrow.

Cocoa salutes this move and has dragged his abacus out from under the couch. Previously used exclusively for determining frequency, number and hourly distribution of daily treats, he has now set about calculating his first Collatz WU. He asks your patience and requests an extended deadline...

LOTs of us fell for it immediately, then began to read thru it.. hook, line, and sinker.... we bought it!!! Slicker set the trap, and 99% fell for the bait...By going out-of-house Slicker sure caused a BIG stir!!

Or my past work units?

In fact I had more than 2 working days on average and therefore Collatz 2.7 Million / Day.

Now my PC is that 2.4 million to 2 days ...

Crash the next I cut everything in Collatz!

If a project having computer problems means you will be leaving it then you can expect to be a VERY disappointed cruncher going forward. EVERYONE has computer problems, especially those with Servers trying to keep almost a hundred thousands pc's connected to it every day! Back when all this started Seti itself, the biggest Boinc project in number of users, went down for almost 2 weeks and never said a word! Slicker, being the Admin he is, at least puts up a webpage saying he is down and working on it!!

We are not understood.

Pb is not the fact of not cruncher but as soon as the Collatz servers are fault I put my PC on other applications.

Those who crucher their PC with their $ better understand my raisonnemant!
