OK -- so we now the load on the database server is such that we can pretty much depend on a crash if not every day, certainly once a week. We know that the recovery cycle is pretty much one of 1) being aware of the crash, 2) physical access, and 3) restart process.

So I am wondering, would it be possible to create a script which takes the server down - perhaps once a day -- cleanly along with a script (or the same script) which would then restart the server. Without having to get to the server to do this?

It seems to me, that the server crash might simply be a memory leak -- one which is made more frequent by the heavier activity load the server is now seeing.

Just a thought from the peanut gallery.
