Hi all,

Running MacOS 10.12.2 Sierra

on this hardware:
Model Name: iMac
Model Identifier: iMac16,2
Processor Name: Intel Core i5
Processor Speed: 3.1 GHz
Number of Processors: 1
Total Number of Cores: 4
L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB
L3 Cache: 4 MB
Memory: 16 GB

Graohic: Intel Iris Pro Graphics 6200
VRAM (Dynamic, Max): 1536 MB

I have had a problem with the machine locking up so I have been trouble shooting and everything seems to pint to the Collatz Conjecture application when running on the GPU.

Starting in safe mode makes the GPU un-findable and the problem disappears.

The lock-up requires a hard reboot.

Anyone else experienced this? Anyone have any other solutions that would allow me to continue to run Collatz using the GPU?

Many thanks

David

Did you clear up your problem? I have an iMac with the same GPU and CPU and C@H is running fine under BOINC 7.6.34 and OS Sierra 10.12.6. After spending a little time optimizing BOINC, I now run it only when the computer is not being "used" (no keystrokes or mouse usage).

BTW, whereas BOINC is running fine, MS Office (particularly MS Outlook) runs very poorly on my iMac. This could be because it is accessing 4 Gmail accounts, 2 MS Exchange accounts, and >40 GB of email, messages, etc. In fact, my clunky old MacPro 3,1 (2x 2.8 GHz Quad Xeon) runs MS Office SO MUCH better than this iMac. That could be because I have a 1 TB 6g SSD as my primary internal HD, have upgraded to 16 GB of RAM, and have two NVDIA GPUs installed (a GTX 960 and a GT 120). :-)

No I did not clear it up! I have now updated to High Sierra and the problem persists. I can run CPU tasks OK, and especially in safe more where the machine will happily run for days. However in safe more the GPU is disabled, or seems to be so Collatz reports GPU missing.

As you say running it with everything else closed down seems to work more reliably.
