haha.

I'd just be happy with a Linux AMD64 CUDA client

Seriously . . ..

How about a way to force the BOINC platform to run a GPU-specific WU all the time (while computing). Mine keeps bouncing back and forth between 8 and 9 projects, depending on whether a Collatz WU is "waiting" or not. I think it's a conspiracy to prevent me from having a RAC of 40,000!

:~)

NVM . . .. I figured it out. You have to set collatz to run GPU when in use. DUH!!!

Need to convince AMD/ATI to produce CAL/Brook for MACs. My guess is that AMD is not happy because MAC decided to go OpenCL and only support nVidia cards in their OpenCL implementation. Start a petition. Several others have PM'd me with the same request. Eventually ATI will listen if enough people gripe about it to them.

knock on the BOINC guys' doors and ask'em to make an GPU-BOINC platform, different from BOINC platform, if this would be not restricted by their policies...

Now that the new iMacs and Mac Pros (released this week) all have ATI cards it looks like there is a shift from Apple to get away from the Nvidea platform. Are you any closer to getting an ATI GPU optimized app for the Mac? Currently I'm running a Nvidea GT120 doing GPU as a secondary card but my primary is an ATI HD4870, seems a shame not to use it :)

Wish: ATI client for 32bit linux which doesn't just error out immediately.

I understand it may be unproductive for the devs since most linux users with modern graphics hardware will be using 64bit, but I cant since I need to run legacy apps and so have a good graphics card (ATI 4870) sitting idle. Would also be nice to get some useful work out of my old P4 system with a 4650 AGP card.

What do you mean by 'high steps'? If you mean your daily high points then a stats site should have that, I look at several and each seems to provide the data a little differently.

Make sure to also change the default setting of 25% to zero in the Boinc Manager where it says "while processors usage is less than_____ percent". It is under Advanced, Preferences and then Processor Usage. This will help those pc's that DO NOT do other things while crunching. IF your pc is also used for other things you may want to play with this setting, it is designed to turn off Boinc if your free cpu percentage goes to that number or below. This helps other programs keep functioning when they need more cpu.

Hi,
I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 32bit.
I have collatz working fine on a 4550 under 64bit ubuntu 10.04 on another machine.

On the 32bit machines it simply requests units, begins to run them and errors out after 3 seconds with the following output messages being typical:

Fri 27 Aug 2010 16:29:16 BST Collatz Conjecture Starting collatz_1282112751_626564_1
Fri 27 Aug 2010 16:29:16 BST Collatz Conjecture Starting task collatz_1282112751_626564_1 using collatz version 209
Fri 27 Aug 2010 16:29:20 BST Collatz Conjecture Computation for task collatz_1282112751_626564_1 finished
Fri 27 Aug 2010 16:29:20 BST Collatz Conjecture Output file collatz_1282112751_626564_1_0 for task collatz_1282112751_626564_1 absent

Any help greatly appreciated!

Send a message to either Slicker or Paul Buck and see if they can help you, you could also ask in the Unix/Linux section. I know it used to be Ubuntu would not work and it may be that the 32bit Ubuntu still doesn't work. I am NOT a Linux person so you are probably already past my expertise level.

I'd like to be able to see what my high steps have been.

I also think it would be great to be able to see what are our personal highest steps. Something like personal records.

I like that idea, too.
