Congratulations to PoorBoy who is about to become the #1 in BOINC combined stats.

Seems a lot of people are really jealous of you like this one here. http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,28035_offset,40#283793 :)

Thanks, I Just noticed this Thread as I very rarely go into a Cafe Forum. As far as the Jealous Type go when they start Paying my Utility Bill's they can tell me where to run my Box's at. Until then They can run what they consider Worthy Projects & I'll run what I consider Worthy Projects ... :)

I notice I did have 1 supporter in the mix, Thank's Haris: But the real Facts are

1. I have 15 Host's
2. Only my i7 consumes that much energy (700-800 Watt's) the rest consume anywhere from 250 up to about 550, still a lot of energy but no where's near what you posted
3. I do crunch as a Hobby only, what sort of Hobby or enjoyment would I get out of it if I only crunched what other people wanted me to Crunch, none at all in my book.
The Competition is what drives me, it's the only reason I ever started running BOINC in the 1'st Place, with out it I'd shut my Box's down.
4. I've done my share of CPU Crunching at many Projects, way more than most of the Haters have, so Hate away is all I can say to the Haters

Someone is about to prove we are at a total loss with the current Boinc credit system.
Over at Boincstats I see that someone is about to take over the number 1 spot of all time total Boinc credit.
Interestingly this is done by racking up 9 million points per day with just 11 hosts. [[-(]
LOL

And how many 5970's are inside per host do you think? That guy's machines consumes 700-800w an hour per host crunching 24/7 all inside his garage. As we all know, electricity is not free. How much do you think is his power bill per month?

We all have our goals why we crunch, some of us crunch because we are interested on the project itself, while some crunch as a form of hobby.

What about him? Even if he makes a 100x more than his credit per day right now, It wouldn't bother me at all. He can afford to buy and run all those hardware, while I cant. As what i've seen on some of his posts in many forums, he's a good guy in my book.

If you look me up in boincstats, 70% of my credits are from Collatz. While I crunch for WCG (mainly for the cancer projects) and MW for the science, I crunch for Collatz for fun and DNETC as a backup whenever Collatz or MW goes down.

When did boinc really become fair on credits? CPU and GPU is like crunching with a pentium 1 against crunching with an I7. Why intel cpus gets more credit than amd cpus while more power efficient? Why nvidia double precision sucks compared to ati's? Why cows can't fly?

Yeah PoorBoy/Paladin, ye the man!

I dream having 1 Desktop and 2 Laptops crunching projects (I currently have 2 laptops now). Any recommendations? I think I don not have enough dope to i7 machine, but would ye ever consider an AMD as a main cruncher (read a desktop).. I usually have had a Intel, but recently as my income has not risen with expenses: - I seriously consider an AMD machine.. what ye think?

Nothing wrong with an AMD if that's what you want. I'm not really the person to ask what to get though since I've never owned an AMD Machine, but they do have an advantage at some Projects ...

Well it seems like AMD is bit slow on Einstein@home project, compared to intel..

They said even 6 core AMD is lagging behind i7, it is just that i could get AMD so much cheaper (Prosessor and motherboard almost half price to Intel).. Hmm

Of course I could do that trick, that i buy one part at time in course of half year and then put it together, instead of cobbling all parts same time. (prosessor, motherboard, memories, hard-disk, graphicard, power)

Well, I might wait that half-year out finding used parts too, maybe i can get that i7 4core version somewhere cheap...

It is tough one to decide should I take Intel or AMD, all that i am saying.

The big thing to remember is to get as much as you can afford when you do buy, don't do it over time, because the next day someone will have it on sale cheaper and someone else will have a faster and better one on sale! IT stuff is a moving target, what is hot today is ice cold in 6 months! If you can afford an AMD x6 system now, go for it!! You will be happy now, you could get hit by a bus in a month and have a full bank account instead of you having enjoyed that x6 for that month! Not that I am suggesting you go out and play with buses, DON'T!! At any single point in time AMD is faster and then a little later Intel will be faster, it is a battle they have and it is very similar to the gpu battle between Nvidia and ATI. Just my opinion!

Absolutely mikey. Have a bang, go with whatever you have and be content with being in the top 100 (as I was once) or the top 1 (WELL DONE POORBOY!!!)

I can also agree with you Paladin, "so Hate away is all I can say to the Haters".

There's little choice for some of us to help with science, but this boincing is truely expensive if you're at the Poorboy/Paladin/etc level. You want to try and take a look at your dwindling electricity bills when when you turn those boxes off. You might then appreciate what these guys are doing.

Sorry mikey, not sure about "ice cold in 6 months". Nothing is icey about a garage full of humming PCs in winter ;)

Oh I totally agree with you, my basement is currently at 85F with only a handful of pc's down there running right now! The statement was referring to the technology though, referencing how fast it is changing right now.

I was in the process of trying to work that one out... It's a bit baffing after coming back here after some weeks. Go on, tell me, what did you do to Poorboy?

Yea, I got an iPhone earlier this year, and now they bring out an updated version that looks like a tin and needs rubber bands to get on the internet :P

I dunno

He's probably been abducted by some strange aliens masquerading as art-deco fanciers but more likely to be artful dodgers. Hopefully he'll turn up sometime and we'll recognize the poor boy when he does.

I am just a poor boy
Though my story's seldom told
I have squandered my resistance
For a pocket full of mumbles such are promises
All lies and jests
Still a man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest
