on my collatz preferences i have selected only ati gpu for collatz. i have Ati Radeon 5450 with the latest drive, ubuntu 10.10 (on which i m a total noob) and the latest version of boinc - 6.10.58 if i remember correctly.
as you can see here http://boinc.thesonntags.com/collatz/hosts_user.php, collatz can actually see my GPU (the only pc with linux)
but i still dont receive wu. instead, i receive this message:
Message from server: collatz_("is not available for your type of computer").
since i m still inexperienced on linux (my first day actually), a step by step explanation would be great. ofc, any kind of advice is mostly appreciated.
btw ati gpu tasks for collatz were running fine on windows 7, not many credits, but running extremely smoothly.

Quick reply as it is getting a bit late here :-)

Do you have the propriety drivers for the ATI installed?

You will need those for it to process on the card.

Also make sure that the fgrlx is loaded "Before" BOINC is, the one from the BOINC website which is just a single dir in your /home/"somewhere" and run from there is OK, but if you use a different one ( like I do for SuSE, comes from a repo ) it tends to start before the GUI as daemon when the machine boots and so the needed ATI stuff is not loaded and therefore I do not even have the option of GPU in the BOINC "Activity" menu unless I quit BOINC, stop the service and then start again after the ATI's have loaded ( init 5/GUI logon on SuSE )

This does not bother me much as my machines run 24/7 so once done it only needs doing again if I shutdown for maintenance ( kernel update and/or defluffing to get the bunnies out )

:-)

There are a couple of ways round this.

Let us know if you need more.

first of all, i would like to thank you for your reply.
i tried what you suggest, but nothing happens. the same message appears again
"Message from server: collatz_("is not available for your type of computer")"
i must also add, that boinc manager sees my gpu immediately when i launch it.
one of the messages i receive when i launch the manager, among the others (starting boinc client version blah blah blah) is this:

ATI GPU 0: ATI Radeon HD 5x00 series (Cedar) (Cal version 1.4.1332, 1024 MB, 104 GFLOPS peak)

which (i believe) means that the problem is not what you supposed to be.
what other solutions can you suggest

That sounds OK.

Have you also d/loaded the specific ATI application for collatz and made sure all the libs are in the correct place?

The app can be found here:

http://boinc.thesonntags.com/collatz/power_apps.php

Depending on your arch then the 32 or 64 bit are here.

There is a readme inside the dir that tells you how to make sure everything is in the right place.

thanks again for the reply. i tried what you suggest, but again no result. however, i found a workaround this problem, as i somehow managed to get my gpu able to process primegrid tasks. so, i consider this matter done.
once again, thank you very much for the info you provided :)

Hi,

I am completely newbie in the Linux-world.
I have just installed Kubuntu, updated it to the latest version. There was a special ATI-driver, tested by linux people; I installed that.
Unfortunately the messages say 'No usable GPU found'. Sorry, there is one, I crunched some WU's under windows. (Onboard Graphic Chip)

I have no idea where to look or what to do. ATI CCC is installed.

Any hints?

Alexander

Remove the ATI driver that came with Ubuntu and download and install the one from AMD's site. The one that comes with Ubuntu is a "lite" version which isn't capable of being used for crunching.
