Not sure what is going on. I have two systems running ATI 12.1. One is HD5850 and runs fine. 27 valid results since I put 12.1 in. My other ATI system has the HD4890 and has 22 errors and only 3 valid results during the same time.

The error is access violation reading from location 0x00000190

http://boinc.thesonntags.com/collatz/result.php?resultid=109223673

I only discovered this problem after I realized I had a problem with almost ALL of my primegrid wu's erroring out on both ATI systems. Staff at primegrid states a bad bunch of WUs were recently released. I assume this is just a coincidence, but the errors from my two systems (over 100 each) show access violation reading though a different location: 0x10 (in addition to a lot of timeout errors).

http://www.primegrid.com/result.php?resultid=353228294

tthrottle indicates temps have been under 77c for 24 hours and I run the 4890 at the lowest gpu and memory clock (underclock to minimum).

I don't know exactly but I would move the older card back to version 11.9!

I looked at the event logs and the system has been entering sleep every hour. Maybe this is the problem. I just set the system to high performance to keep it from sleeping. If this does not work then I will find 11.whatever. I cannot roll back to 11.x, as this was a rebuild after a motherboard swsap and I put in the latest 12.1 after booting the original vista.

I'm getting the same thing.

Unhandled Exception Detected...

- Unhandled Exception Record -
Reason: Access Violation (0xc0000005) at address 0x000000000273026E read attempt to address 0x00000190

Engaging BOINC Windows Runtime Debugger...

I'm running 12.1 and I have watched them error out right in front of me so I don't think it's a sleep problem. A bad batch of WUs...perhaps, but I'd rather not download a bunch and waste bandwidth failing them.

It isn't the WUs because after you return yours, others download the same file and it works for them.

I'll bet that if you downgrade to Catalyst 11.9 or 11.6 they will run without errors.

At the bottom, I think, of the download page is the older drivers link.

I found 11.6 and that seemed to solve the problem. FWIW, my HD5850 handles the 12.1 (1.4.1664) just fine but the older HD4890 clearly had problems with 12.1

    CAL ATI RV770 (1024MB) driver: 1.4.1417
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium x64 Edition, Service Pack 2, (06.00.6002.00)

    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 (1024MB) driver: 28562, CAL Cypress (1024MB) driver: 1.4.1664
Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium x64 Edition, Service Pack 1, (06.01.7601.00)

I am running the 4890 at lowest settings as I have not gotten around to replaceing the fan. It was a real PITA on my 5850 as I could not find an original OEM.

I went down to the 11.9 and that has been working for the last few hours. I had to go to 12.1 for something, but I don't remember why exactly. And I can't be sure of my previous version, whether it was 11.9, .6 or something else.

Thanks for the help.

This error is similar to Primgrid@home is experiencing so could it be the same here ? I've listed their temporary fix so that anyone with programming skills can check to see if it apples too.

Prim
temp fix
I just successfully completed a pps(sieve) work unit, despite the previous errors.
http://www.primegrid.com/workunit.php?wuid=253925806

In order to temporarily fix the problem, download a good number of WUs, then edit your client_state.xml (after shutting down BOINC).
Take the value for rsc_fpops_bound within the pps_sr2sieve workunits and multiply by it 100.

Recently I bought a HD 7750 and I see a lot of counting the new 7xxx cards they make a mistake.

For example, two pieces of 7xxx cards are bad: http://boinc.thesonntags.com/collatz/workunit.php?wuid=49664303

I hope you will be better and good behavior.

Are you overclocking or gaming while crunching? What else is going on with the pc when this happens is my question.

I added the new v4.03 app for x86_64 for AMD OpenCL so those with HD 7xxx GPUs should now be getting the latest version. Hopefully it will have fewer problems than the 3.11 apps.

I just errored out a ton of units immediately. Had to disable the project. :(

I now see they were 3.11, I will re-enable and hope for 4.03 to download!

Sorry to post 3 in a row here, but I have now received v4.03 WUs and they still errored out almost immediate on Catalyst 13.2. Milkyway, Distrogen and World Community Grid all function perfectly fine with these drivers. :(

The new Atitreiber not run with the hd7xxx in Collatz!
Please take a look at the top PC list cast.
http://boinc.thesonntags.com/collatz/top_hosts.php

Catalyst 12.8 is guaranteed (OpenCL 1.2 AMD-APP (938.2))
Or the SDK in the driver downgrade to 2.7

@Zanth
Your old driver was ok

I realize that, but I game, and I needed the new drivers to fix an issue with a game I bought. I just thought I would mention that even the new app that Slicker just put out is not working correctly with the new drivers, which I believe it was meant to do.

You need the latest drivers. OK.
But then looking for a project on which it is running. Perhaps Einstein, Poem or HCC (WCG).

I run multiple projects, I like this project and would like to continue to support it. I informed him there was a problem still with the new app, I thought that was providing useful feedback? I'm not complaining here.
