I have two ATI cards, one is on board , and one is 6850. When I disable on board Ati 4250 then frequency of my 6850 is shown correctly. But when is enabled, then it show same frequency as on board GPU...

CAL Runtime: 1.4.1703
Found 2 CAL devices
Device 0 is 6850 at 985 MHz ( not 560 MHz as shows)
Device 0: unknown ATI card 1024 MB local RAM (remote 1788 MB cached + 1788 MB uncached)
GPU core clock: 560 MHz, memory clock: 800 MHz
960 shader units organized in 12 SIMDs with 16 VLIW units (5-issue), wavefront size 64 threads
not supporting double precision

Device 1: ATI Radeon HD2350/2400/3200/3400 (RV610/620) 128 MB local RAM (remote 1788 MB cached + 1788 MB uncached)
GPU core clock: 560 MHz, memory clock: 800 MHz
40 shader units organized in 1 SIMDs with 8 VLIW units (5-issue), wavefront size 32 threads
not supporting double precision

You will have to get some much more knowledgeable people to help but I always thought it was the CCC software as on my dual gpu machines they also both say the same info even though they are not that identical.

Beside that info, my GPU works ok, so it is just cosmetic change, nothing else...

The app uses the device id and translates that into the description of the device. So, "unknown" means it is a newer device that didn't exist when the app was compiled. That info really isn't used for anything.

It may be that the 4250's frequency is what is being displayed for the 6850 instead of the 6850's frequency. When the ATI apps were written, it was expected that poeple running multiple GPUs would have then set up in crossfire and therefore have all the same kind of GPU and that the frequency of all the GPUs would be the same. I'm not even sure the 8.12 drivers supported running two different kinds of cards at the same time. But obviously, the newer drivers do and a 4250 and a 6850 are not the same. So, the assumption fails and incorrect info is displayed. The info displayed is really meant for debugging purposes to see whether different projects are tryng to run the app on the same device at the same time and for the user with multiple cards to tell which WUs were done by which GPU.

So, as you guessed, it is really just costmetic. Since AMD plans to drop CAL/Brook+ support and has already starting doing so with the 79xx cards, I don't know that it pays to update the app and then re-test it on all the platforms at this point.
