The solo_collatz validator was down due to it attempting to decode a corrupted WU. The faulty result has been set aside for further analysis and the validator is back up and running. It will probably take a while to catch up, so relax, eat some Turkey, watch the Packers beat the Lions, and check back later. Happy Thanksgiving!

Maybe it is attempting to decode another corrupted WU.
Corrupt WU should be prosecuted and put in jail where they belong!!

And it's back up, now. Quite a backlog, but one of my recent solo's has validated. :-)

The results are stored in the database as they are used to show the current day's high steps as well as the recent high steps. Every day, approximately 55,000 results get added. With the solo app, that number has doubled. I hadn't checked the database size for a couple weeks and it grew to a size which exceeded the amount of physical RAM in the machine. Since MySQL doesn't work well unless the entire database fits into RAM, the server stopped responding well and the validator and the other BOINC server daemons all became backlogged. I started the archive process last night but it didn't complete prior to the nightly backup. The nightly backup restarted all the services prior to the archive process optimizing the tables to recover the disk space so I had to start over this morning. Unfortunately, the daemons are now about 8 hours behind schedule so it will take a will for it to catch back up.
