The Collatz server was down due to a power outage. It appears that everything is back up and running now, but if you have any issues, please let me know. Thanks.

99.99999% sure that is a false positive since the app hasn't changed in a couple years. But, just in case, which specific application is being flagged?

Microsoft blocked mini_collatz_6.04_windows_intelx86_opencl_amd_gpu.exe. I never had this happen before and I'm running one now without any problems and after a full virus scan. But, this was the latest one and I thought I should let you know.

The same happened to me with the mini amd_gpu.exe
The start of the exe was blocked by Microsoft Security Essentials.
A week ago it was running normally, but this morning the very first task could not start due to:

Thanks. I can duplicate the error.

Microsoft recently added the Win32/Bulta!rfn to their security essentials and the string of bytes they use to check for the virus, the footprint, matches that of the mini amd gpu app. The app is NOT infected though.

Until Microsoft fixes it (could be a while) you can either choose the solo app in your preferences instead or exclude the c:\program data\boinc folder from being checked. BOINC "signs" all of its applications so that the BOINC software knows whether it has been altered in any way prior to running a WU, so doing the latter does not leave you open to viruses.

Do you have a twitter account so that we could have a bit of time scale information to outages?
