Due to spammers creating so many fake user and computer records, the Collatz site now requires an invitation code in order to create an account. Contact me for the code. The code will at least slow the spammers down as I will change it as often as needed. In addition:

Users without any credit will be deleted.
Computers without any credit will be deleted.
Teams without any credit after will be deleted.

Probably the same spammers who have been VERY busy over at Enigma (which is slow to remove them), SETI & POGS:

Hi,
what about registered users?
Do we also need an invitation code to renew our accounts?

regards

Enigma@home employed a blacklist filter and successfully filtered out most of the spammer accounts. Maybe consider doing something like that?

What is the best way to have new users contact you?

Just to confirm, if a user has an active account, do they need an invite code to add a new system?

Is the requirement specific to new accounts and not new systems with an active account?

Very much thanks for the heads up. When does this go into effect? I have a placeholder on a team with 0 credits on this project. I'll slide over to give it a little something now.

I had found people who joined my 2 teams without any credits. I just deleted them and put no joiners in effect.

Good questions I want to know the answers.

I believe that as an established member of the project, boinc manager asks you if you are when you wish to rejoin the project. It just needs your e-mail and password.

This will only concern completely new accounts on the project.

The way TN-Grid was doing it while they were still beta was to ask the project director in a private mail from any project page. All you need is his user handle in this case {Slicker} from any boinc project in which he uses this handle.

It would be best if Jon {Slicker} passed the access code to the team founders who could then give new users access to it. (also easier to update it)

But no, if you have an established collatz account, you will not need an access code to reattach.

That is the way boinc operates natively for all projects. Only completely new accounts on the project would need the code.

My Boinc Manager event log told me to remove Collatz and re-attach due to an old URL. Now it won't let me re-attach as a current user.

Now what ......

Try rebooting the machine then reattaching....

Might just need to clear it's memory...

You only need the invite code to set up a new account. If you have ever attached to Collatz in the past, you already have an account. Adding a new host doesn't require the invitation code. In other words, if you can post to this message board, you already have an account and don't need the invitation code. If a friend wants to join, you can contact me via PM or they can email me. My address is at the bottom of every page. (Yes, I get lots of spam in my email because of it.)

Up to the last week I was working with Collatz on my computer ID 107965. But I made a mistake which leads me to suppress Collatz project and I cannot get it again. Is this impossible ? Note that I also work with Collatz on computers ID8223 and ID 494516 with the same name rjchpasq.
Sincerely.

So I'm a current user with slightly over 35,000,000 credits, do I need an invite code? If I add a new machine does that need an invite code (it would start with zero credits) I run some instances in docker containers, occasionally I need to rebuild them which creates a new instance to replace an existing one (usually with the same name) does that require an invite code?

I understand your trying to solve a very real problem, but the approach makes me nervous as an existing user. I feel we need more clarity about what your doing to address the problem. I know that will help the spammers as well. Over the years I've invested a lot of computing power into Boinc Projects, and while it not the main point being in the top 10K users feels good.

Perhaps a more relevant question is what can legitimate users do to help you address the problem?

Hi Ray. Slicker answered your question 2 messages up:

How do we make sure that our Team "EVGA DC Captains" account is not removed and deleted. The Account manages all of our BOINC Projects.
