Thanks, Mikey, for the Win! πŸ˜€

Well, with SETI currently having Server issues and NO to LITTLE work going out, I'm perplexed... πŸ™ƒπŸ€¨ Should I set this Thread with a Low Post Number to get to,
or, a Larger Post Number to get to... πŸ˜…

Maybe even an Event, like whenever SETI gets back fully online again... I don't know, yet. 😳

Everyone have fun and keep Posting. As always, someone WILL win! πŸ˜€

[Rules:]

1. Winner of the last thread starts the new one with a post of these rules.
2. Chooses a future event which triggers the winner, e.g. post number, date-time, and records it privately somehow (yellow sticky, etc.)
3. Everyone has fun posting until the target event is reached.
4. When the target is reached, old winner posts declaration of new winner and also PMs them.
5. Shortly after this a Mod will lock the recently won thread.
6. No double posts. Violator buys a round for the house in The SETI Refugee Pub.
7. Additional rule -- No posts that APPEAR to be blank - these will be ignored or deleted. (Sig lines do not count as part of a post.)

Good luck to everyone!!!!!

I think I've sorted out Mike H. and his issues.

He first needs to Upgrade from Win 10 Home x64 to Win 10 Pro x64.
Then use DDU to COMPLETELY Uninstall the Default Drivers that Win 10 Home
forced on him. Then Install the correct NEO Driver(s) for his Integrated HD-530 GPU.

He's mentioned in the "Intel GPU no longer available" Thread that he's also looking
into adding a Discrete GPU. I've instructed him, first, to Upgrade to Win 10 Pro x64
and then use DDU and then get the correct NEO Driver for the HD-530. THEN he
can install whatever 2nd GPU he desires.

TL

[EDIT:]

Just got 300 SETI Units... May have to cut this Thread short.
No more work being accepted here for Collatz...

He may not want to spend the money to update though...I just got a brand new pc, AMD 1920X ThreadRipper, that the pc shop put Win 10 Home on and it crunches just fine with the latest drivers with the Nvidia 1080Ti gpu in it.

One may be fine on Home for a short while, BUT when IT decides to Update Drivers, one has NO choice in the matter.
[EDIT:] AND, the Drivers that Home May Update to, are "Game Ready" Drivers which WON'T have OpenCL attached.
Win 10 Home will do what IT wants, NOT what you want.

For the $99 to Upgrade from Home to Pro is WELL worth the money, ESPECIALLY IF one intends on
using a Discrete GPU to Crunch with. Once on Win 10 Pro, one can Set to NOT Update Device Drivers
and then whatever Display Drivers get installed by you will remain unchanged.

SETI ran out of work again...

Now that Win7 is out of whatever it is, not getting updates, would it be easier to go to Win7 Pro then get a free upgrade to Win10 Pro? You can still upgrade from Win 7 to Win10 for free and you get to go from like to like, home to home or pro and above to pro. I know when XP went out of it you could install XP for free with no numbers even asked for or anything you put in there was okay.

The Free Upgrade for Win 10 ONLY takes you to 10 Home. Then you go to Windows Update ---> Activation ---> Go to Store, "Upgrade to Win 10 Pro: $99.00"

So, it doesn't matter if you are on 7 Home Premium, or 7 Pro, your Free Upgrade to 10 will still be Win 10 Home.

TL

[EDIT:]

For comparison, if you were to buy 10 Pro on DVD from my Computer Source in Newark, CA, the price is about $140. So, the Direct/Free Upgrade from 7 to 10 Home then Upgrade to 10 Pro for $99 saves you money.

TL

[EDIT 2:]

Kind of like when I Upgraded Vista SP-2 x64 to Win 7, the ONLY Win 7 Upgrade Package on DVD that I could find was to Home Premium, NOT Win 7 Pro.

Most of my pc's where on Win7 Ultimate and they all went to Pro with no problem, now that was a long time ago not too long after they first started offering the free updates to Win10. I have not upgraded some of my Win7 machines, and probably never will, as all they do is crunch anyway. In fact I still have 2 Win7Pro licenses/stickers here that will work on any pc.

This is what I've just found: How to Upgrade from Win 7 to Win 10 for Free.

It doesn't state what/which Win 7 Version they've started from, nor which Win 10 Version they end up with... It's being a little vague. So, maybe you're right and you still
can go from 7 Pro to 10 Pro... This was NOT made clear in 2016 when the people in SETI Number Crunching were discussing the Original Microsoft "Free Win 10 Upgrade"...

All I can say is that my original research from back in the day had me believing that no matter what Version of 7 one was on that the MS Free Win 10 Upgrade was just getting people
to Win 10 Home, and that one had to pay the $99 to Upgrade to Pro from 10 Home. Maybe things changed, maybe my research was incomplete... Don't know, all you can
do at this point is try one of your 7 Pro Systems and see what happens after Upgrading to 10. I'm interested to know myself, now.

[EDIT:]

I can say that after the beating that the people in SETI Number Crunching were giving Win 10 made me go Hackintosh to get to MacOS. I haven't looked back.

Yes Windows has alot of overhead in it, even Linux beats it consistently when running Boinc.

I may try doing that but not this week.

Yeah, well, that Post was before my 'Rant' in the Refugee Pub.

Things have REALLY gone down hill, as I mentioned in the Pub.
NOT sure where SETI is headed, now. It's hard to maintain
the faith.

I saw this at Einstein:

the easiest way is to edit the boinc client source code and recompile it, the limit is in the boinc client code. several of us at SETI have done this. I'm currently holding ~10,000 SETI tasks on each of my systems this way (a buffer against system outages, so I don't run out of work in the downtime).

I do NOT have the Software Expertise to Edit the BOINC Source Code, NOR the ability to Recompile it.
I know my limitations and limits, and WILL NOT be going there. Sorry...

I'm strictly a Hardware IT Tech.

I never learnedhow do it either but do know that there is one you can download at MilkyWay that the same guy says does work everywhere but I don't know if it has the Seti tweaks in it or not. It's basically a release number the official folks never used.

Well, got to Update Hackintosh-Andromeda today.
MacOS is now on Security Update 2020-001 - High Sierra 10.13.6 - (17G11023)
NVIDIA Web Driver 387.10.10.10.40.134 and still on CUDA Driver 418.163.

No issues to report on Updating, all seems to have gone well.
[EDIT:] I will Update Mac Pro 5,1 - Daedalus at a later time.

Crunching on Collatz resumes tonight at 6 PM - PST.
