Hi all, it is time for a new episode of that much-beloved pastime of Collatz@Home forum denizens: "Last One to Post Wins (LOTPW)". For you newbies, here are the rules: 1. To participate in the game, you must post to the prescribed thread. 2. A post must consist of at least one word. 3. A participant may not have two or more consecutive posts in the thread. 4. The winner of an episode is responsible for organizing the next episode and for choosing the winner of that episode. 5. The winner may be chosen on the basis of the date/time of the post, the number of the post in the thread (50th post; 31415th post; ...), the presence/absence of a particular word/phrase in the post, or any other reason selected by the organizer of the episode. However, the organizer of an episode is prohibited from winning that particular episode. 6. Have fun! Below, here is a list of previous winners of LOTPW. I apologize if I butchered the rules and for omitting recent winners of LOTPW. Thanks for the congratulations, everyone! You probably don't believe it, but it has been the high point of my week. Thankfully, there are some impending changes that will dramatically improve my work-life balance and job satisfaction. And, give me more free time with my family and friends. Sounds like a win-win-win, doesn't it? Will share the news as soon as the embargo is lifted. In the meantime, I am winning!!!!!! |

@David Riese: best of luck with whatever is about to transpire. I'm jealous of Mikey (because he's retired) I moved into a brand new neighborhood 15 months ago and everyone STILL wears name tags at all the community get togethers!! When I moved in there were about 25 homes now there's over 80 and I saw some brand new people last night that I've never even heard of before!! One idea might be to take your camera and have each kid write their own name on a card that they stand with and you take their picture. You can then scroll thru them and associate a name with every face on your off days too. You could even print each picture and cover up the name and see how well you do. |

Happy Monday! On Friday afternoon my boss accepted my resignation as Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Programs for the Auburn University Harrison School of Pharmacy, effective June 1, 2018. At that point, I join the Department of Drug Discovery and Development has a tenured full professor. While I will miss working with faculty and students to broadly advance the research and graduate education missions of Auburn University and its Harrison School of Pharmacy, I will not miss the bureaucratic challenges of the job. Moreover, because my workload will consist almost entirely of teaching and research (very little service/administration), I will be back to doing the things I love most - performing cancer research and teaching students about cancer chemotherapeutics. Indeed, I feel that this change is exactly what I need to rejuvenate my job satisfaction and personal well-being. War Eagle! |

Thanks, Kathryn and Mikey! I see Jon has released LINUX CPU and GPU apps, so the OS X apps can't be far behind! Woo-hoo! I smell crunching! Now if I could only find the time to get that MacPro 3,1 with the dual GTX 750Ti GPUs up and running, I will be able to keep Mikey and others from forcing me off the list of top 50 crunchers. I have already resigned myself to the fact that Steve Dodd is going to pass me this weekend, if not earlier! |

Thanks, Kathryn and Mikey! No one has gotten the Linux apps to work yet I don't think, could be a naming problem but I'm not sure. I know my own Linux machine has 'open-GL' installed not the 'open-CL' that Collatz is looking for, it could be time to move it over to Windows after all. At that point in time I should get my new gpu, a 1080Ti, on line to replace a 1060 that is running Ammicable numbers right now. I also have a couple of I7 systems I'm working on but they won't be up and running for at least a week or so due to lack of older motherboards. I need a couple of 1366 cpu based boards and some of them are VERY expensive, but I'm looking. I did find an i7 Xeon 1366 cpu on sale though and it's here waiting for a board to put it in, that makes two boards I need but I have everything else and they will eventually replace a dual core and a quad core board that are both running right now. IOW I am trying to come closer to you David but it will take some time!! |

All your computer talk. Pfffttt. You'd think this was DC or something. They left me alone with children today. And me without anything planned. Talk about getting thrown in the deep end. One can only read so many stories before one wants to gouge ones eyes out. |

All your computer talk. Pfffttt. You'd think this was DC or something. Then why don't you bring in your Pi to show them what you can do with it? |
