I would like to urge participants to switch to Rosetta@Home or Folding@Home (non-BOINC application but also distributed computing) to aid with Coronavirus research until a vaccine has been developed and tested. While it would be nice to solve a decades old mathematical conjecture, it would be better to do research to save lives. Please consider it. Please note that Folding@Home has both CPU and GPU applications. |

Slicker it's a good idea to help for covid-19 instead of Collatz for the moment. http://worldcommunitiygrid.org begin in the next time also work against covid-19. |

I appreciate that you are encouraging members to search for cures for COVID-19. I am here because the 20-fold increase in members at Folding@home made it difficult for me to run on that project. With as many as 38 back-logged work units all trying continually to upload and reaching as much as 97% uploaded before repeatedly failing, FAH used about 58GB of data in five days. I am on measured service (250GB/month) and I could not continure there. My rig is an ASUS B250 Mining Expert with a quad core Intel i5 7600 and four dual GPU Radeon HD 7990 video cards which are best-suited for double precision projects. I do not want to run this rig on CPU only projects, so WCG and Rosetta are not good choices for me. :-) This is the first time I've ever apologized for being on a project! |

I appreciate that you are encouraging members to search for cures for COVID-19. Folding@Home is very much swamped with all the help they have right now and it's showing, I'm not sure even they expected the amount of help they have gotten. They are expanding but it takes time and money. For me the problem for you is the paying for data transfers, I could not do that either!! MilkyWay also uses double precision but the credits are slower and less than here. |

Just reduce the number of credits for tasks. Half of the users will immediately run away themselves. They don't need collatz, they need credits. |

Just reduce the number of credits for tasks. Half of the users will immediately run away themselves. They don't need collatz, they need credits. According to BoincStats Collatz has: Users 65,183 Active users 2,335 (3.58%) Hosts 6,676 Active hosts 4,557 (68.26%) While Cosmology has: Users 82,258 Active users 5,822 (7.08%) Hosts 15,774 Active hosts 10,710 (67.90%) Eistein has: Users 6,147 Active users 3,624 (58.96%) Hosts 15,089 Active hosts 12,833 (85.05%) Seti has: Users 1,808,588 Active users 89,017 (4.92%) Hosts 163,878 Active hosts 140,679 (85.84%) Seti gives out just about the fewest credits of any Project Universe has: Users 1,080 Active users 776 (71.85%) Hosts 3,911 Active hosts 3,049 (77.96%) Universe pays a ton of credits for their cpu workunits. What this says is that at least some of the people here probably like the credits but people like other Projects as well even though they give out fewer credits. |

You are right. I will suspend collatz and start GPUGRID and Rosetta@home and others helping fighting the virus. |

I Man that is impressive it means you are/were using 11.6 gig a day. Has to be good for science |

I World Community Grid now has COVID-19 workunits as well, the Project is called Open Pandemic and they are cpu only workunits. |

I found this in a post on the WCG forums, take it as it is and check it out: I would like to show in brief two other projects that are working on Covid: they are less know, and perhaps OPN's researches does not know them. Perhaps they know them, in case ignore my post :) The first is TN-Grid, from the University of Trento, Italy. They are running a project, gene@home, that is doing "gene network expansion" with an algorithm called PC-IM. They looks like a small but very serious project, with a good number of publication and very precise in the work they are doing. They did this "gene expansion" thing for many genes involved in some human pathologies but, during this outbreak, they expanded all the genes related to Sars-Cov2 according to recent papers, as can be seen in this forum post. Onestly, I do not know what a gene expansion is, but I am sure Scripps' researchers does. They completed this part of the research (1242 genes in 730296 WUs), and they are ok with sharing the data with the scientific community as soon as they need them. So, if this kind of research can be of any use for the purpose of OPN1, you should contact them! http://gene.disi.unitn.it/test/ The second is called Quarantine@Home and it is maintained by researchers from the University of California, San Francisco, as can be seen in this reddit post. This project is really new and much less known than Tn-Grid. But I think it can be interesting for Scripps' researchers to see what they are doing because: 1) They are performing Autodock simulations between molecules from the ZINC database and three Sars-Cov2's targets: mpro-1, spike-1, spike-2; 2) Their software runs also on Nvidia GPU's on a docker, and I have seen that it runs very well, with a speed way faster than the one of OPN1 on CPU (of course); 3) Despite being very "spartan" their website is outstanding: results are updated real time and you can see all the binding energy calculated by users in a public database! So the data are immediately available to everyone, including your researchers of course. The best binding energy they've found so far is -14,8 Perhaps it could be very useful for you to compare their results with yours. https://quarantine.infino.me/ |

According to BoincStats Collatz has: Universe@home has got "only" 39k active users, but total users are maybe over 1 hundred thousand. They are not on BOINCstats because they did not consent data export for stats. You can even find users from userid=0 to userid=53842, then there are not users up to userid=120000. By now userid=213442 exists. Same on Einstein@home. |

According to BoincStats Collatz has: Yes that's true of all Projects that are conforming to the GPDR spec, but it also means ALOT of work to figure all that out for every one of them. The point was to show that people crunch for more reasons than credits. |

The point was to show that people crunch for more reasons than credits. Yeah, nothing to say against it. We love science and that's the main reason for choosing projects. ;) About credits I even do the opposite. I crunch not much on Collatz because I don't like its credits are higher than GPUGRID and PrimeGrid ones. |
