Thanks for the kind words and congratulations, Mikey and annlet. I am bummed by the latest attempted hack of the project and how it has screwed up the results validator. However, I thankful that Jon is working hard to find a solution. I would really hate to have Jon give up and force me to find another project to support, as I don't think any of the others supports old macs running relatively new GPUs quite like Collatz does.

Amicable Numbers might, it has the right apps if you are running 10.7 or later anyway https://sech.me/boinc/Amicable/apps.php

From me too, Kathryn :)

Our schools haven't quite finished yet. I had reason today, to pass the primary school my two little ones used to go to and the reception classes (which are last September's youngest classes) were heading out one gate for a school outing, as even teenier ones (from the nursery school about ten minutes away) were being led through another gate, to sample their first morning of what "big school" will be like this coming September.

They were so cute... these little Lilliputians... on their way to contemplate their next Gulliver... ;)

Anniet, your students are not out for the summer, yet? Wow. Here at Auburn, my third-year PharmD students start on July 30, my second-year students start on August 6, and the first-year students start on August 13! My BS, MS, and PhD students start on August 20. (Of course, I have had BS, MS, and PhD students working in my research lab all summer long.) Not much time left to get ready for the Fall semester! Whew, where did this summer go?

Thanks for the advice, Mikey. Will hang in there for a little while longer before I go to the effort of moving my Macs to a new project.

I moved mine to amicable numbers to stop the problems for the Admin once he gets things fixed.

That's noble of you, mikey. I have too many macs in too many locations (home, office, three different research labs, grad students bullpen) to reconfigure BOINC for the short term. It would be great if Slicker manages to re-evaluate the invalid results and I get credit for the work done for the project during the last week or so. But I won't lose sleep if he can't. Slicker made it quite clear that the crunchers should consider alternative projects or suspending Collatz until he got the validator mess straightened out.

I am happy to buy the first round at the LPTPW gathering! :-) Looks like the crowd would be pretty small - only five people (you, me, Kathryn, anniet, and SteveRocky) have contributed to this thread.

Seriously, though, do you think that the project's restrictions on joining are also negatively impacting the vibrancy of the Collate community (and this forum in particular)?

Thanks for stopping by, steverocky. The validator is up and running again and my credit totals and RAC are recovering, so all is good in my tiny portion of the Collatz universe! <g>

Got a venti iced mocha (with four pumps of raspberry sauce) at my elbow, along with a pile of dose response data from an high throughput screen for novel anti-melanoma agents. My collatz crunchers are all pumping out results. All is good with my world! Hope everything is going well with yours!

You know when you're so certain you did something it comes as a quite a big surprise when you later realise you did nothing of the sort? Well...

David :)

You know here: https://boinc.thesonntags.com/collatz/forum_thread.php?id=36&postid=725? Where you said this:

Anniet, your students are not out for the summer, yet?

I thought I said: "Our universities are, but not the primary and secondary schools yet. They'll be freed at the end of next week* I think :)" ... except it seems I didn't, or if I did, I neglected to actually do anything useful with it, like click "post reply".

Let's hope this time I do.

*Wave to Steve and Mikey and Kathryn and everyone* :)

edit: * which is now this week... I think...

Similar things happen to me all the time. I have these conversations in my head but apparently I don't REALLY have them. My wife claims it is the effect of my advancing age. Boooooooooo! In any event, I hope you are enjoying the summer!

Sorry David it happens because our minds don't process tasks as fast as we used to do when we were younger and things get lost in the transfer. Humans are NOT multi-taskers we can just switch between tasks very fast, but as get older things don't work as fast as they used to, probably too much stuff in there to think thru.
