1) Message boards : Number crunching : Linux ( ubuntu 10.10 64 bit) twice slower then Win (Message 12036)
Posted 2474 days ago by Profile mscharmack
This is not only happening to Linux, 32 bit windows app also having problems under windows vista and it just started a couple of days ago. It does not do it under windows XP. Under Vista, the majority of work is being done by the CPU rather than the GPU. Used to take 600-1000 sec CPU to total run time of 6500-8000 sec, now the CPU is doing about 85-90% of the work.

4/10/2011 4:52:48 PM NVIDIA GPU 0: GeForce GTS 250 (driver version 26658, CUDA version 3020, compute capability 1.1, 500MB, 470 GFLOPS peak)

4/10/2011 4:52:48 PM NVIDIA GPU 1: GeForce GTS 250 (driver version 26658, CUDA version 3020, compute capability 1.1, 500MB, 470 GFLOPS peak)

This problem is not happening with SETI@Home work units, so it looks like an app problem. I can't do other CPU projects on this computer because collatz is taking too much resources.

Any thoughts???

Yeah!

The only person here who needs to get a life is DA. He's only worried about the credits simply becuse of the large exodus of computer power away from SETI@HOME to other projects. But instead of raising their credit distribution to match those of other projects (where the computers eventually landed (Collatz)), he simply complains that the other projects are dispensing far too many credits. I volunteer my computer/GPU time to various projects and I like the credits I'm getting from them. I will not support any project where the credits issued are substandard to what I'm averaging now. I have to pay my electrical bill every month and I will continue to decide where I can get the best credit for the proverbial buck. So DA, stop the complaining, and let "free enterprise" reign supreme.

Looks like it's time to replace the validator with a newer more reliable model or go on and dump all existing ATI 2.05 work units.

You running CPU or GPU workunits?
8) Message boards : Number crunching : Only 4 work units at a time? (Message 1759)

Well it's up to six WUs now for CUDA23 and the projected time is down to 17 hours. It will load more as the projected time gets lower.

It appears that I am only getting 4 cuda/gpu work units maximum at a time. I used to get 60 total before. I have no idea what is happening? I am running BOINC 6.10.6 on Windows XP 32 bit with an AMD 6000 Dual core with two 9600 GSO vid cards running cuda 2.3. It just started doing this within the past 24 hours. Anyone have any ideas?????

Either 1. reset the project or 2. detach and reatach and then everything should be fine.

What about all those pending WU's that were completed before the reduced credits jumped in. Will they receive the original credit amount or will they receive the reduced amount?
