1) Message boards : Number crunching : Possible Problem with Catalyst 11.2 (Incl APP) (Message 11661)

......However, the second I turn the cards back onto Collatz, small square artifacts pop up all over the screen, and the system becomes entirely unresponsive. I have to do a hard reset to get it going again. And this ONLY happens with Collatz......

What are the the three sets of GPU and Memory settings on the 5970 you use for Collatz, MW and DNETC?

Regards
Zy

These sorts of things were happening with my cards at stock settings, 725/1000 for all projects. Typically, I run MW and DNETC around 825/600 (can't recall exact numbers, since it's been a while). Collatz I would run about 825/1150.

At this moment, my 2x5970 setup is running MW at 725/700. It crashed after an hour at 725/1000 (stock settings), so I dropped the memory clock, and it seems to be stable. Has run without problems for 14+ hours now.

I had actually been running a 2x5970 box in CrossFire mode for several weeks without issue. Then, after the "DNETC is closing" scare, I moved the box over there to get my 100M milestone. Once I hit that, I switched back to Collatz, changing no settings, and my system BSOD'd.

That was 12 days ago. Since then, I've had a nightmarish time getting my system running stably (even with everything at stock settings). At this moment, I am stably running 11.2 (non-APP), Win7x64, 2x5970 in CrossFire on MilkyWay. No errors over there.

However, the second I turn the cards back onto Collatz, small square artifacts pop up all over the screen, and the system becomes entirely unresponsive. I have to do a hard reset to get it going again. And this ONLY happens with Collatz.

@Kashi: is this the symptom you get when you put your 5970 on Collatz?

I realize this has been a few days, but I just saw this and want to say that I've experienced this same problem. I've seen absurd clocks running MW (1000/1500 for all GPUs in a 2x5970 Win7x64 system in CrossFire mode).

Like Kashi, running Collatz causes an instant failure of the system. I've gotten it stable on MW (haven't run DNETC since the failure), but refuses to run Collatz, even after changing drivers (I've run 11.2, 11.1, and 10.10 with APP; 11.2 and 10.10 without APP).

Another symptom on the 5970 is that BOINC will report an absurd GFLOPS rating at stock clocks; my system reports 3200 GFLOPS for each GPU in the 2x5970 setup, when it should be 2320.

I've only seen the error running 11.2 APP, but don't know if it has occurred with other APP drivers.

I seem to be unable to report my completed tasks to Collatz. I am currently sitting on 145 completed WUs, which will not report, even with a manual update. Note that they have all uploaded; I am just unable to report them. These are the messages I get:

4/30/2010 1:29:31 PM Collatz Conjecture Sending scheduler request: To report completed tasks.
4/30/2010 1:29:31 PM Collatz Conjecture Reporting 145 completed tasks, not requesting new tasks

4/30/2010 1:29:36 PM Collatz Conjecture Scheduler request failed: Failure when receiving data from the peer

I have tried everything that I and my teammates can think of. I have:
1. Exited and restarted BOINC.
2. Restarted the computer.
3. Flushed the DNS.
4. Reinstalled BOINC.
5. This happened before, and I detached and reattached, and the same problem is happening.
6. Manually deleted the sched_reply and sched_request files for Collatz, in case they were corrupted.

I don't think this is a Firewall issue, since all other projects work just fine (including MW and DNETC), and the other computer in my office that is connected to the same network was able to report tasks successfully. (Windows Firewall has been disabled)

This machine is Win7x64, BOINC 6.10.43. ATI CAL 10.3. Any advice would be appreciated.
