Hi,
my Boinc-Manager does still not update the collatz statistics.
Do I have to do something?
Or is this still a project problem?
Also the statistics at BoincStats do not update.
Could it be that there is the same problem as it was with the first ssh certificate change?

Hi,
i have the same problem with the certificate!
Aren't there other admins to do the work instaed of Jon?

Since 28.10. I can not register a new computer and Collatz does not sent statistics to BOINCstats!

Hi all,
the cc_config.xml is at it's right place in win 10 with the important line <use_all_gpus>.
But nothing had changed! Still after some restarts.
With Collatz ONLY ONE GPU is calculating!

Now, after several tests with Linux and win 10, with GPUGRID, Einstein@home and Collatz, I can definitely say that the failure is NOT at BOINC, NOT at LINUX, NOT at win 10!
With GPUGRID and Einstein@home both GPUS are calculating!

THE ONE AND ONLY THAT KEEPS IS COLLATZ!
with collatz still only ONE GPU is calculating!

Please fix that failure!

Veit

Hi,
for testing I had switched to windows 10 now.
But I'm absolutely not familiar with windows, so I need some guidence.

I had written a cc_config.xml with th line
<use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus>
but Boinc does not find the file.
Probably it is in the wrong folder.

Where have I to place it?
Which rights has the file to have?

Also I would like to write an app_config.xml.

What should be in it for windows 10 and where shall it be?

Many thanks in anticipatiopn!

Hi mmonnin,
this is my current app_config.xml

/var/lib/boinc-client/projects/boinc.thesonntags.com_collatz/app_config.xml

<app_config>

<app>
<name>collatz_sieve</name>
<max_concurrent>9</max_concurrent> ---> 8 CPUs and 1 GPU. I had tried 10 for 8 CPUs and 2 GPUs but then Boinc manager reported that both GPUS ara calculating, but the Nvidia X-Server Settings showed that only GPU0 was calculating (GPU utilisation 98%) and GPU1 was idle (GPU utilisation 0%) Somthinf must be wrong, either with Collatz or with Boinc!

<gpu_versions>
<gpu_usage>1.0</gpu_usage> --->here I tried 2.0 but with no success
<cpu_usage>1.0</cpu_usage>
</gpu_versions>

</app>

</app_config>

and this the cc_config.xml

/etc/boinc-client/cc_config.xml

<!--
This is a minimal configuration file cc_config.xml of the BOINC core client.
For a complete list of all available options and logging flags and their
meaning see: https://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/client_ ... figuration
-->

<cc_config>

<log_flags>
<task>1</task>
<file_xfer>1</file_xfer>
<sched_ops>1</sched_ops>
<coproc_debug>1</coproc_debug>
</log_flags>

<options>
<use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus>
</options>

</cc_config>

In the last days I had made some tests with several settings of cc_config.xml and app_config.xml.

In any case only ONE GPU was calculating!

AND now (with the setting above) one GPU and all CPUs are calculating BUT all 8 CPUS are calculating concurrently for ONE task!
I had seen that the calculation time for a single task is now half the time of that when a CPU is calculating one task at the time.
This means that this calculation mode is very ineffective!

How can I get back to the previous setting where every CPU was calculating one task at the time?

Is it right that commends in a xml file are beginning with a <!-- and end with -->? I would like to document my changes.

HELP! HELP! HELP!

Hi mmonnin,
since I resetted app_config.xml (I renamed it so that boinc can not see it any more after a restart.)

Only the CPUs are calculating and the two GPU tasks of GPU0 are suspended.

Could it be that boinc keeps the app_config.xml anywhere else?

Hi mmonnin,
collatz sieve is right.
But with the actual settings in app_config.xml

TWO tasks are running on GPU0, NONE on the CPUs and GPU1 is still IDLE.

I'll restore the old version of app_config.xml to run at least 8 CPU tasks and ONE GPU task until I got the right settings.

Hi mmonnin,
I had changed the app_config.xml as you recommended.
But I got this error message:

Sa 02 Jul 2016 09:52:09 UTC | Collatz Conjecture | Your app_config.xml file refers to an unknown application 'solo_collatz'. Known applications: 'collatz_sieve'

Solo_collatz is wrong.

When I enter the command

systemctl status boinc-client

I get this output:

Hi mmonnin,
hi all,
I had read the complete postings on
http://www.overclock.net/t/1414835/collatz-conjecture-project-support-thread/30_30#post_21783131

and i'm confused completely now. ;-((

I do not understand these lines in the file
/var/lib/boinc-client/projects/boinc.thesonntags.com_collatz/collatz_sieve_1.21_x86_64-pc-linux-gnu__opencl_nvidia_gpu.config

verbose=1 that's clear!
kernels_per_reduction=128 what is a reduction? what is reduced?
threads=8 threads per?
lut_size=17 what is the meaning of lut?
sieve_size=30 what is the effect of varying sieve_size?
sleep=1 sleep after what? what is the dimension of 1: seconds?
reduce_cpu=0 why should I reduce CPU?

How does this all effect calculating on both GPUs on my Titan Z???

I need a basic instruction of these values.

Hi arkayn,
you have TWO grafig cards with ONE GPU each,
I have ONE grafic card with TWO GPUs!

That's an important difference!

Hi mmonnin,
its me once again;-)

I just found that:

<app_config>
<app>
<name>solo_collatz</name>
<max_concurrent>1</max_concurrent>
<gpu_versions>
<gpu_usage>1.0</gpu_usage>
<cpu_usage>0.2</cpu_usage>
</gpu_versions>
</app>
</app_config>

But I do not understand the following line:

<name>solo_collatz</name> ?????

What is the meaning of that?

And:
Why is there the cpu line in the <gpu_versions>

<gpu_versions>
<gpu_usage>1.0</gpu_usage>
<cpu_usage>0.2</cpu_usage> ?????
</gpu_versions>

What are the meaning of the two values?

<gpu_usage>1.0</gpu_usage>
does it mean: run on one GPU only?
Than I should set it to 2.0?

<cpu_usage>0.2</cpu_usage>
Does it mean: use 20% of the CPU?
I would like to run 100% of the CPUs. Or is it counterproductive because every GPU needs an amount of a CPU as assistance.

Hi mmonnin,
I just added these lines to app_config.xml so that it is now:

<app_config>
<gpu_usage>.5</gpu_usage>
</app_config>

But I think there must be more because I got this error message:

Hi mmonnin,
I had written that app_config.xml to the directory
/var/lib/boinc-client/projects/boinc.thesonntags.com_collatz/
It was not there before.

But there must be more than this single line

<gpu_usage>.5</gpu_usage>

I think ther should be beginning and ending lines.

Please send me an example.

Hi,
while searching for app_config.xml I found in
/var/lib/boinc-client/coproc_info.xml
this message at the and:

<warning>NVIDIA library reports 2 GPUs</warning>

Why is there a warning?

Could this be one of the reasons that Collatz does not use both GPUs?

Hi,
I just dicovered this thread of optimisation.

I have a DUAL-GPU grafic card and unfortunately only one GPU is calculating tasks for collatz. The second is idle.

Is there any of these settings responsable for this phenomenon?

Could or should I change some for a better calculation?
Would this bring up the second GPU to calculation?

Hi Zdenek Hrbek,
NO, the problem is NOT solved.

In the meantime I heard that other people with DUAL-GPU grafig card have the same problem.

One wrote me to write

sleep=2

to the file

collatz_sieve_1.21_x86_64-pc-linux-gnu__opencl_nvidia_gpu.config

in

/var/lib/boinc-client/projects/boinc.thesonntags.com_collatz

I tried that, but had no success!

Conclusion: The problem is still there!

Veit
