1) Message boards : Unix/Linux : Experimental Linux x86 ATI app errors (Message 9716)

Hi again & thanks,
From the thread you've linked and a message from "Slicker @ SETI.USA" I've managed to get it further. I needed to create and set environment variable BRT_PERMIT_READ_WRITE_ALIASING to 1.

Unfortunately this has not allowed me to run collatz work units on the GPU. Upon starting a GPU task the computer now freezes. Mouse pointer doesn't move, nothing on screen changes, caps lock key doesn't toggle the light on the keybord on / off, ctrl + alt + F? combinations do nothing. The only thing that works is the alt+sysrq+REISUB reboot trick.

I'm not sure why I'm having this problem. As before any help much appreciated.

Is anyone reading this forum running the 32bit ATI linux client successfully? (and more specifically on Ubuntu 10.04 and an ATI 4650?)

Thanks & apologies if I'm being thick.

PS: I've just tried running the CAL examples provided in the ATI stream SDK and they run with no problems on my system.

Anyone? Is there someone specific I should try and direct this question to?

Wish: ATI client for 32bit linux which doesn't just error out immediately.

I understand it may be unproductive for the devs since most linux users with modern graphics hardware will be using 64bit, but I cant since I need to run legacy apps and so have a good graphics card (ATI 4870) sitting idle. Would also be nice to get some useful work out of my old P4 system with a 4650 AGP card.

What version of Linux are you running?

Hi,
I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 32bit.
I have collatz working fine on a 4550 under 64bit ubuntu 10.04 on another machine.

On the 32bit machines it simply requests units, begins to run them and errors out after 3 seconds with the following output messages being typical:

Fri 27 Aug 2010 16:29:16 BST Collatz Conjecture Starting task collatz_1282112751_626564_1 using collatz version 209

Any help greatly appreciated!

Hi,
I'm trying to get Collatz to run on my 32bit Linux (Ubuntu 10.04 32bit) system with an ATI HD4650. I'm using the application:
collatz_2.09_i686-pc-linux-gnu__ati14.tar.bz2 (Linux 32-bit ATI - EXPERIMENTAL!!!)

It is (I think) correctly set up and BOINC will download GPU work units for me. However, when they run they go to "Error in computation" within 3 seconds of starting. Example is attached here:

I don't know what the issue is, but my card appears to work with no problems in all other situations. I know the app is marked as experimental, but it would be nice to get teh card working.

I've got it successfully installed and running on my HD4550 64bit system (Ubuntu 10.04 64bit) with no problems. It would be nice to get my (more powreful) 4650 working as well...

Any help greatly appreciated.
