My son will buy a new computer with a Nvidiy 7025 grafikcard. Will it run with Collatz on the grafikcard?

Hi,
this is a new option in BOINC.
2 actions for you:
1. load the newest version of BOINC. They had some problems with this function.

2. You can change the settings:
Under Extras - settings -Usage of provessors (sorry I have it in German and try to retranslate it inEnglish). There you can change the value in: whlie processor usage ist less than xx percent (0 means not restriction)

I set this value to zero .

I hope this helps.

Hi,

what's on slicker? We got no new WUs since some days. What is the reason?

Hi, welcome here.

Did you set the CPU-switch in your collatz-profile on?

Hi Rabbit,

why did you take win7 with 64bit now? I think it is a good choice.

Does anyone have an app_info to run both CUDA and x86-SSE? I'm running both CPU and GPU tasks on a Q6600 with an 8600GTS successfully. A stock (v2.00) CPU task takes about 24 hours. I suspect the SSE version would do better :-)

I know I'm being lazy in asking. It's just that someone must have already figured this out.

I need 8-9 h per WU on my Q6600 for evrey 4 WUs parallel, about 32.000 - 33.000 seconds. I run the original application, no optimazsation, I run win7 64bit.

I have a NVIDI 260 and teh 191.03 is for me more stable than all other 190.xx drivers. I hope it goes in the right direction.

The v191.03 still doesn't fix the problem of the NVIDIA Cards Down Clocking at GPU Grid, I tried it last night on 1 Box and had 1 Card Down Clock Twice within an hour.

That's bad. Do you know any Version that fix this problem?
11) Message boards : Number crunching : BOINC 6.10.10 special for collatz with ATI GPU (Message 2081)

Here the mail from rom Walton:

Howdy Folks,

We have a new build out to test. Later today or tomorrow the Collatz Conjecture project will be deploying the latest server changes that will be compatible with this client for using ATI GPUs. We had to tweak a few things last week in order to handle the DLL renaming ATI/AMD decided to pull a year ago.

For those of you who are not already attached to the Collatz Conjecture project I would encourage you to wait until after we get the all clear from Jon as assigned tasks will crash unless the 'ati' named runtime DLLs have been copied and renamed to their old 'amd' names.

This release also contains changes that allow you to selectively choose which GPU types to use on certain projects. Again, this requires a server update as well.

Please log test results to http://boinc.berkeley.edu/alpha/ and report bugs to this list.

had you set the click for CPU in your colltz-profile?
I think MW is the better choise dor CPU.
15) Message boards : Number crunching : GPU Task limit (Message 1659)
Posted 3045 days ago by Wolfram1
The problem ist descibede in this thread http://boinc.thesonntags.com/collatz/forum_thread.php?id=95

The start value für the application ist very high and boinc chances the correction-fdac (Task duration correction factortor) very slow. So you have to waaoit some days till you have the right factor for your system. After several dyas your estimated runtime smaler and smaler and you will than get more and more WUs.

Thank you Marty, that you said it much more clear.
17) Message boards : Number crunching : Only 4 work units at a time? (Message 1623)
Posted 3046 days ago by Wolfram1
What is aour actual expected runtime? It may be very high now, but it goes down with every succesfull finished WU. And than you will get again more WUs.

Now I have to figure out how to credit those that had only that problem as the reason they were inconclusive.

Cost of doing business?

I as big a credit whore as anyone, but, *WE* pressured to get 2.0 out as fast as possible so .. *WE* have to accept the costs ... this is one ...

Though I may be a minority here ...

I say write them off, accept the losses people and lets re-issue the work so it can be done correctly. And lets move on ...

Paul you are not a minority, otherwise I would be also (with many other people) a minority.
19) Message boards : Number crunching : Credit (Message 1512)
Posted 3047 days ago by Wolfram1
Hi StandardredHorse,

yes the situation is for you and any other people here not lucky.
But it is also difficult for Slicker to find the right way.

Slicker has a hard job to bring out the Version 2.0

And we should accept the bad crerdits for the old WUs.

The future will be good. With 2.0 we all more credits per day as before. Tomorrow we all will be lucky. :-)
