Thank you! I had not realized how inexpensive whole house breakers are. I am going to get this one. My brother is an electrician, so that reduces my cost to parts and sweet tea.

I have a mining rig that has two power supplies, 1000 watts and 1250 watts, and the system uses under 1500 watts of power at 120 volts (12.5 amps) according to my Kill-a-Watt meter. Since an adequate UPS with a rating of 3000 VA costs about $1000, I settled for a $25 Belkin surge protector rated 15 amps.

After about a week, the surge protector was hot enough to cause an odor and it was hot to the touch. I removed it from the system.

My point: It is good practice to use a surge protector at about 50% of its rated amperage. I was near 83.3% continuously.

I found this post by Matthew McCleary helpful, in particular the app_config.xml.

<app_config>
<app>
<name>collatz_sieve</name>
<max_concurrent>8</max_concurrent>
<gpu_versions>
<gpu_usage>1</gpu_usage>
<cpu_usage>0.25</cpu_usage>
</gpu_versions>
</app>
</app_config>

As an example, on a quad core CPU and one AMD video card, I I run the following to run three GPU jobs at a time with one core for the GPU and running one CPU work unit on each of the remaining cores.

<app_config>
<app>
<name>collatz_sieve</name>
<max_concurrent>6</max_concurrent>
<gpu_versions>
<gpu_usage>0.33</gpu_usage>
<cpu_usage>0.33</cpu_usage>
</gpu_versions>
</app>
</app_config>

Link to photo.

Built for double precision (FP64) crunching on a budget. Four Radeon HD 7990s (8 GPUs). Wishing for AMD Radeon VIIs. It uses about 1400 watts, definitely not efficient. Power supplies are OCZ 1250 and 1000 watts. This project thinks it is running Windows 8, but it is Windows 10 Pro Insider Preview. Project description page.

I appreciate that you are encouraging members to search for cures for COVID-19.

I am here because the 20-fold increase in members at Folding@home made it difficult for me to run on that project. With as many as 38 back-logged work units all trying continually to upload and reaching as much as 97% uploaded before repeatedly failing, FAH used about 58GB of data in five days. I am on measured service (250GB/month) and I could not continure there.

My rig is an ASUS B250 Mining Expert with a quad core Intel i5 7600 and four dual GPU Radeon HD 7990 video cards which are best-suited for double precision projects. I do not want to run this rig on CPU only projects, so WCG and Rosetta are not good choices for me.

:-) This is the first time I've ever apologized for being on a project!
