2) Message boards : Number crunching : Mixed nvidia and AMD drivers (Message 20454)

You miss the OpenCL drivers which would be need to crunch Collatz on a card of that generation. You may need to install a proprietary driver dowloaded form the AMD website. I run the OpenCL app on both my HD 6670 -discrete card- and my HD 6550D -IGP video of my A8-3820-. The Ati app gets trashed however.

I also see a missing -or being not at the right place cc_config.xml, the file that should contain the line
<use_all_gpus>0|1</use_all_gpus>
in your case, as you do not use the primary card that is in the PCIe slot -the nVidia card.

Why am I being sent the CAL/Brook+ app for then? Why is the error message so misleading?

To me it looks like some BOINC applications first search for either CUDA or CAL, and then go searching further for eventual OpenCL capabilities. When a GPU does only have OpenCL -and no CUDA or CAL- it gets no work.
I experienced this in another system with my HD 8400 -the IGP of my Athlon 5350- because of the lacking CAL. Trying earlier drivers did not work out as the HD 8400 is too modern for them.

In the case of Collatz it is handled differently: "You can crunch OpenCL, so you may not use CAL"
and that for either of my capable GPUs, both the discrete and the internal, even though both CAL and OpenCL are reported by the BOINC manager

As I said earlier, it is only the Ati application that fails. The cards -a card and an APU will gladly run the OpenCL app.

And besides, I'd be crazy *not* to include that line when using an APU/IGP, otherwise it sits in the mobo adding nothing above a normal CPU. Now it contributes almost as good as a HD 6670. It is just that Collatz won't let me crunch both CAL and OpenCL apps with them.
And when there's no CAL, there's no AMD crunching I discovered with another, later APU that has only OpenCL drivers. All BOINC projects give the warning that they can't give me GPU WUs because there's no CAL, even though the BOINC manager reports the OpenCL for both CPU and IGP.

It is this computer: http://boinc.thesonntags.com/collatz/show_host_detail.php?hostid=136808 I still think the error message is misleading. The cards fall within the range specified, the BOINC manager detects both CAL and OpenCL. It is just the Collatz application that thinks there's something wrong when trying to run the CAL application and then starts reporting "Only HD 2400 thru HD 6990 are allowed to run ATI applications" for a HD 6670 and a HD 6650D...

Video driver too old, like here?
http://boinc.thesonntags.com/collatz/forum_thread.php?id=1145

If Slicker is right -BOINC reports both OpenCL and CAL for my cards- then it is likelier to be that the drivers are too new. The cards DO crunch the OpenCL app, they fail at the Ati app.

I get the error message "Device 0: AMD TurksOnly HD 2400 thru HD 6990 are allowed to run ATI applications."

AMD Turks is here a HD 6670 discrete card plus the HD 6550D -being the IGP of my AMD A8-3820 Llano-, together forming the 'HD 6690D2' in dual graphics.
Both HD 6670 and HD 6550D fall into the category HD 2400-HD 6990 as described. Even the hypothetical 'HD 6690D2' falls in that range.

Why do i get "Device 0: AMD TurksOnly HD 2400 thru HD 6990 are allowed to run ATI applications."?

I don't have a problem with the running time, I have a problem with the fact that all other BOINC work seems to freeze while running Collatz...And I use APUs and HD 6670s, no high-end. But running three Collatz WUs will easily double or triple the times of other projects.

The Win8 box -the one with the AMD A8 3820/HD6670 Combo- fails half the time because the slowest WU is broken off as soon as the fastest is finished (check the completion times for that box, you'll see a failed result with the same completion time for every instance with a good result).

Beginning to experience this behaviour again...

Using my HD 4770 right at this very moment -see hostid=36135-, just as able as the HD 48xx series, so OpenCL 1.0 capable (only far cheaper to run 24/7/365!)

AMD ATI Radeon HD 4700/4800 (RV740/RV770) (512MB) driver: 1.4.1734 OpenCL: 1.00

Works with Ati/AMD GPUs under Win7, Win8 and With AMD APUs and GPUs under Linux after enabling both the GPU and the CPU at the Collatz preferences.

Has even downloaded AMD OpenCL CPU WUs for my Intel CPUs that have a AMD/Ati GPU...

Caution: The HD 48xx GPUs require the Legacy AMD Catalyst driver which is NOT the same as the current AMD Catalyst driver.
You can add the HD 47xx to that

The GPU tasks take almost .9 CPU and make the system behave very sluggish. On a dual GPU system -with quad CPU- it make the complete system come to a stand-still, nothing else gets done.

the Gigabyte GA-EP43-UD3L manual doesn't explain what the red and orange "phase leds" on the mobo mean.

page 31: PHASE LED
The number of lighted LEDs indicates the CPU loading. The higher the CPU loading, the more the number of lighted LEDs. To enable the Phase LED display function, please first enable Dynamic Energy Saver Advanced. Refer to Chapter 4, "Dynamic Energy Saver Advanced," for more details.

Dirk, are you trying to run 2 units at once ?

Three of my boxes have APUs for CPU and each has an additional HD 6670, so they all run two WUs a the same time. The two Linux boxes fail all the time, the Win8 box fails half the time because the slowest WU is broken off as soon as the fastest is finished (check the completion times for that box, you'll see a failed result with the same completion time for every instance with a good result).
