Got it! Thanks Slicker. My computer is processing Collatz gpu work units as I type this.

I'm having the same problem others are having while attempting to add Collatz. I am eager to add Collatz as I have built a new computer and want to run something besides Seti@home.

Please give us more time to complete Collatz 2.0 work units. I have one that will take over 587 hours to complete and only about 336 hours to finish it. My machine has an Intel q6600 running at 2.4Ghz

I have not seen many who can do it much faster, the overclocked one just ran at 900/1300(5200).
And i can tell you guys the 5000 series are easy overclockable cards, with a bit time you get very nice results

I used to have one Sapphire 5870 Vapor-X rev1 which I'd overvoltaged and overclocked to 1000/1400, averaged around 295 seconds. Sadly budget hadn't permit its keeping.

Wow nice clocks.
To be honest i have not tried to go higher on that guys card,
I just took furmark and afterburner put in 900/1300 and poof it ran as mentioned.
I just tested the mem speed at 1320 to see if it was slower or faster on the fps to see if it ran at its limit but its not(another indication it can go much faster)

Now as far as i know all these cards can run close to these speeds without even getting warmer (his card does have same temp on stock or at the overclocked speed with 33% fan speed at full load)

But to be honest i think this card can go much higher, but he choose not to because it is a big investment, which i agree its a lot of money to blow up.

I have had some ati cards starting to give artifacts and errors in time, and the 4890 i had running made some crazy temps which indicated that it was damaged.
But the weird thing was they only did these errors on the projects and heavy games, so someone using it for normal use won't notice it.

For now we can't say what effect running these projects have on the cards, ofcourse a card like you mentioned with his special cooler won't run too hot.

I have however a good feeling about these newer models since they run all cooler as the previous models and with less energy consumption

Btw the overclocked cards are much less energy effective.
My old card maxed out at about 67C and my new card at about 60C. I think if I can improve the case ventilation by adding a fan to the rear of the case just above the video card then the GPU temp will come down some.

I just upgraded my video card. The increase in performance is outstanding.
OLD ATI Radeon HD 2600xt 256Mb 1:43:53 per WU
NEW Sapphire Radeon HD 5670 1Gb 0:21:52 per WU

I got that beat.

OLD: 6800gt 256MB INFINITY per WU (could not crunch)
NEW: 2x5870 1GB ea. ~0:07:06 per 2 WUs

from the caves to now can see the penthouse with binoculars.

So basically, your increase in GPU WU performance is approching infinity. Yeah, you got me beat.

I know. This 5670 will most likely be the last video card I purchase for this computer. It's three years old and will likely be replaced before the video card is.

I think I skipped over 2 generations of video cards. Now Boinc says 31:50 per WU. Thats about three times faster than before. If the budgeting committee (wife) had allotted $50 more I could have gotten a 58xx GPU.
