Not getting any work for my 6870 cf. The same problem as posted above, and it began about 12 hours ago, atleast for me.

It's sad you cant use a different driver, this smells like a driver issue.
I'd recommend to try the 11.3 and 11.8 driver btw. Works best with my hardware.
But since you have projects that work with the current driver, why not run only these?

Your gpu wu-s are erroring out, oc? Too high temp, or driver does not like collatz. Dont run em, run cpu only.
Drivers that have produced invalid, inconclusive and error wu-s for my non oc-d ati HD6870 cf are:
11.2
11.4 (bsoded system, and artifacts on desktop. Horrible driver. Dunno why)
11.5
11.6
11.9
11.10
Currently testing 11.12. seems ok.
4) Message boards : Number crunching : Problem with dissimilar GPU's ? (Message 13546)

I recently added a gtx 570 to a system that had a gtx460.

VERY few people have ever gotten both types of gpu's, amd and nvidia, to work in the same machine at the same time for the same project. It would be better to have the exact same gpu if you want to do this.

First, the OP is talking about 2 NVidia GPUs. Second, as long as you have a capable MB there is no problem at all running mixed NVidia and ATI/AMD GPUs. I'm running 4 such machines and prefer that configuration for flexibility. The only reason not to run the same project on both types of GPUs is that some projects are more efficient with ATI/AMD and some projects with NVidia. Simple as that.

Same here. Problems that i have had with invalid or error wu-s, are related to drivers in my case, or to high clock's (oc-s).
5) Message boards : Number crunching : Performance Hit on PCIe x8? (Message 13545)
Posted 2154 days ago by Profile sir sant
I've got a Radeon HD6950 which is used exclusively for crunching Collatz at this time. It's currently on an x16 slot with x16 bandwidth. I'm considering getting a PCIe based SSD (comparing against SATA SSDs) for my main OS to work off of, but that would bump my slot down from x16 to x8 because my CPU doesn't have enough lanes. Would that cause any sort of performance hit? I don't know how much bandwidth Collatz uses at this time, so I don't know if halving the bandwidth would cause any problems.

Thanks in advance.

There is no perf penalty on x16 slot with x8 bandwidth.
Have one 6870 on x16 lane and one 6870 on a x8 lane. No difference. Same is in gaming even with more powerful cards (looked that up in reviews). Also tested 4870 on x16 and x4 lane on another mobo, no difference in collatz or mw. Tested nvidia gts 450 and gtx 260 216s on x16 and x1 lane on PG pps sieve (not gpu memory speed bounded, so i gueass not so sensitive with mobo lane\ram speeds), gts 450 no difference, gtx 260: wu-s completed 10 sec faster, system and mobo and drivers\clock's were the same, so that was a surpsising result.

Just passed 10 million myself too,

Claggy

Sehr gut, just passed 10 million point myself. Next goal 100 million. Should achieve within a year.

Well, allmost a year later and 100.000.000 points harvested in collatz.
And gongrats to everyone else on their milestones.
Next goal: top 100, permanently.

If you wanna run collatz buy ati, it'll be faster. Ati and nvidia work well in the same box. I have had many different setups under win xp and win 7.
Wu-s erroring out is usually a driver issue. Try different ones.
8) Message boards : Number crunching : GTS 450 load not 100% (Message 12836)
Posted 2283 days ago by Profile sir sant
just upgraded from an 8400 gs to the GTS 450. GPU load is only averaging about 70%. Normal? Is there a way to get it to 100%?

My gts 450 under win 7 pro x64, driver 267.59, boinc.6.12.33 x64. The gpu load is about 93% when i run collatz on it. Mostly run pg pps sieve on it with a load of 99%. Mw also runs at 99% load, Moo and dnetz run at 60% load, einstein about 80% load.
But my other box with win xp 32 pro, driver 266.58, boinc 6.10.60 x86 runs collatz at 60% load on gts 450, when i run it. Pg runs at 99% load though.

The power failed for longer than the UPS can handle while I was at work causing the server to go crash. It should be back up now, but if you notice anything strange, please post a comment to this new item.

Thank god it was nothing else, considering the reliability of this project, i was beginning to worry that it's gone like dnetz, for *reasons beyond their administrators* , hope it will never happen though.
11) Message boards : Number crunching : Possible Problem with Catalyst 11.2 (Incl APP) (Message 12250)

Hi, that ati 11.12 (Incl APP) driver will create carbage wu-s with 6870 in cf (10.10 did not). The 11.13 does not, it works well. Didn't try the 11.11

I upgraded from driver 10.10 in 6870 cf to 11.12 in single 6870 mode, and i forgot to check my tasks, cause the credit seemed normal. But when i got my 6870 back from warranty, then yeah, the wu-s were garbage in cf. And i aint gonna disable the cf, cause its not a dedicated crunchbox.

So a red flag from my part for the 11.12 driver.

Yeah, it's a typo. What i meant was 11.2 driver needs a red flag. And 11.3 works well for me. Didn't try the 11.1 driver.

Ok, 2 days passed now with the 11.13 driver and all seems to be fine. Btw i didn't change anything else. So i guess the 11.12 needs a red flag in here, cause its causing issues here and there.

Sorry, i meant 11.3 works fine, and 11.2 causes garbage.

Ok, heres a pic about temps and loads: http://www.upload.ee/image/1293036/desktop_for__collatz.png
And rig: http://www.upload.ee/image/1291152/main_rig.jpg

Testing 11.13 now, if its not better then will test with 10.10. Cause i had no problems in the past with it, and had no issues back then when i was running gigabyte 6870 cf stock clocked.

What has changed now is:
1) different driver
2) new card with different clocks in cf
3) new version of boinc manager
4) win 7 installed on raid 0, boinc installed on normal hdd.

Hi, got a new 6870 back from warranty a few days ago (was running with one 6870 a few months), and now i'm running cf again for two days. The wu-s are not failing, but when i checked my tasks, i saw a lot of inconclusive tasks, and now invalid tasks.

Running on win7 pro 64, boinc 6.10.60. ati driver is 11.12. old 6870 is stock (900\1050) and the new is black edition (940\1150), cf is enabled. Try'd to run the stock 6870 at 940\1150, but it could not take it, so i left it at default and downclocked the other one to 900\1150, cant set the memory to a lower setting via ccc. Is that a bad thing? Running cf with different clocks? How do i get the memory speed lower?

And the boinc manager goes crazy sometimes and reports 4 ati gpus with more tflops (~2200+ gflops x4) and it runs 2 wu-s on both gpus. I just did a restart and now its normal: 2 gpus and correct 2016 gflops.

Whats wrong here? What needs to be fixed?

Had an idea, i was running gpugrid in the past, and they have a bonus credit system: all tasks returned within 24 hours get a bonus credit +25% How's that for an idea? Well heck if we had even a +10% bonus here at collatz it would be nice imo.
18) Message boards : Number crunching : Have a problem with raising nr of timed out tasks? (Message 11306)
Posted 2539 days ago by Profile sir sant
And you can automatically do the only 3 workunits at a time thing by setting Boinc Manager to only use 75% of the available cpu's under Advanced, Preferences and then processor usage tab and the 2nd line up from the bottom. You need to click ok for the settings to be changed and this ONLY works on that pc, not any other one. To make the change globally you need to do it on the website under Your Account, Computing preferences, and then this line:
On multiprocessors, use at most
Enforced by version 6.1+ 100% of the processors

Jess, got that thing finally working the way i want. Thanks man.
19) Message boards : Number crunching : No work for HD6950? (Message 11293)
Posted 2540 days ago by Profile sir sant
Interestingly enough, though I know that this has been discussed by the HW gurus... Collatz on the 6950 is slower than the 5870 while MW is the other way around.

Makes sense: collatz runs on sp power, 5870 = 2720 sp gflops, 6950 = 2253 sp gflops. Milkyway runs on dp power, 5870 = 544 dp glops, 6950 = 563 dp gflops. So no problem here.

The WUs I see that are "errors" will be sent to others. They were sent out on 1/18 and 1/19 and have passed the deadline. That happens a lot if a machine is 100% on a single project and then a second project is added. Now that both are running 50% of the time, the first project may have work timeout if it had large cache settings because it will only finish half as much now that a second project has been added.

I have one gpu project on my main rig (collatz share 99%) running and one cpu project (climate prediction share 1%) running (manually enable 3 wus onlu so cpu has 75% load). Did change my cache from 2 days to 1. Will wait and see.
