So sorry to just learn about this loss and to acknowledge so late.

About a week ago Collatz worked fine on this PC. Now every GPU task fails.

Reinstalled BOINC
Cold boot
Warm boot
Reset project
Remove/Add Project

None of the above work.

Other GPU projects work OK e.g., Moo

Thanks, Mikey, for a detailed, easy-to understand reply which is proven:- I left things alone for a couple of days and today (3 Dec) the PC processed & returned 7 tasksa and continued processing others without missing a beat.

I think your reply should be made sticky or at the very least added to the Q&A (sorry if it's already in the Q&A thread - I couldn't find it).

Many Thanks!

Max tasks per day 1
...

So ... how do I increase the Max tasks per day?

This happens automatically when you return too many invalid results. You'll get a new task tomorrow. Max tasks per day will increase when you start returning valid results.

Thanks Claggy & Starfire. I'm now up to 2 tasks a day. YAY :-(

Seems a bit broken when a new, off-project problem is manually detected, researched, tested, reinstalled, re-tested & eventually - thanks to an arbitrary period of inertia required by the project - declared fixed because the required arbitrary period of inertia passed after the project says "I won't play for 24 hours despite the now-fixed problem solution because you just upset me." Would prefer - working? Here's new work.

Anyway, happily crunching here again on my experimental server running an Atom 2 physical / 4 HT core 330 powered HD2400 PCI (not PCIx/PCI-e) double precision RV610 card under Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit.

Help - I'm going round in circles!
All WU's failed after my update so I went back a couple of releases of CCC.
When I tried to daownload more tasks I have the problem "This computer has finished a daily quota of 1 tasks)" and on checking, found:-

"
mini_collatz 2.09 windows_x86_64 (ati13ati)

Number of tasks completed 79

Max tasks per day 1

Number of tasks today 35

Consecutive valid tasks 0

etc
"

So ... how do I increase the Max tasks per day?

Heeeeelllllpppp!

Forgot my manners ... very many thanks for the prompt that got me on the way to this solution. I am very grateful for the help.

Again, so far all is OK after an overnight crunching session without a single problem. :-)

Checking ... OK so far.

PS:-
Installed 10.6 after MUCH research e.g., 11.1 applies to Vista & W7 not XP (no, I didn't try in XP) etc etc.
FWIW 11.7 AGP hotfix is well and truley broken. See FWIW3.
FWIW2 DNETC had no problem running the original "ancient" driver ...
FWIW3 the card is 3 weeks old. The supplied driver is approx 24 months old. By that reckoning I'm mesolithic. :-)
FWIW4 Catalyst software takes me back to Windows 3.11 ... get your system working, install an update, cross your fingers then when it fails do 2 days of manual fixing - guessing what to do next. What a joke - this update involved overnight reboot that just cycles pointlessly/physical shutdown many times/manually remove files+folders/safe mode uninstall driver because windows fails to start/have a stab at a solution/run a registry editor to clean up the mess/try the latest Catalyst AGP hotfix (twice) software then repeat the whole process when it dumps you into the BIOS. Then guess the right button(s) to press. Ah. Bliss! Fingers crossed :-)

there were driver problems such as this LONG, LONG ago

THAT was the key point i.e., it isn't just me!

all later drivers lock the desktop to 640*480 and 4bit colour on AGP HD46**,

Yes, I got that along the way - nightmare.

Update ...

3) is now happening all the time, even when BOINC is fully enabled / "always on" after the monitor sleeps/wakes from sleep.

When it happens the time remaining for every GPU task goes backwards (increases) so a 30 minute task at 20% complete showed over 4 hours remaining, and increasing every second while the CPU which shouldn't be used is running overtime/overheating.

Same workaround solves this ... but it's now getting boring.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Ray

Hi.
Three problems with mini_collatz 2.09 (ati13ati) tasks when the monitor comes out of sleep:-
1) Frequently - but not always - fail the display driver causing the VPU to stop responding.
2) When 1) happens, the mini_collatz 2.09 (ati13ati) tasks will panic into CPU looping.
3) if in-flight, sometimes mini_collatz 2.09 (ati13ati) tasks fail to respond to BOINC Manager "suspend task" and taskbar "GPU snooze" & full "snooze" options and just continue to process. When the task is allowed to finish no further mini_collatz 2.09 (ati13ati) tasks start, which is correct.
My workaround for all of the above is to logoff/logon at which point the problem goes away.
Any ideas?
Ray
(the only reason this was a significant issue is that in the recent hot-for-the-UK weather where my CPU temperature warning kept kicking-in because of 2 & 3 probably caused by 1. Another workaround was to set the Collatz CPU graphics load down from 50% to 10%.)

The latest AMD driver is 11.6.

Note that one that ships with Ubuntu is useless for crunching

Thanks for that, I'll try to install it (not easy in UBUNTU haha).

FWIW the HD2400 is "capable of 128-bit floating point precision for all operations" according to the ATI/AMD website.

Thanks Ray

Want to run Collatz ATI13 (mini Collatz) but my GPU is not available for work. BOINC says "No usable GPUs found".

I'd try the later driver 8.861 but my system already exceeds the required minimum as I understand things.

BOINC 6.10.59
HD2400, RV610 (PCI not PCIe)
ATI Driver: 8.846
Linux: 2.6.38-8-generic
Ubuntu 11.04

Any help gratefully received.
