1) Message boards : Number crunching : Optimized Applications (Message 7821)
Posted 2811 days ago by Roy Strachan
In Ubuntu I installed boinc from the repositories and logged into collatz using the CPU. Then downloaded the optimized app and opened it up in my user directory, then copied everything to
/var/lib/boinc-client/projects/boinc.thesonntags.com_collatz. (which was handily created by the standard project) Then I copied the libcudart* files and links to /usr/lib or /usr/lib64 depending on the system. (I'm using 32 and 64 bit boxes) I'm probably wasting a bit of disk space here but I have lots. :o)
When that's done do -
sudo /etc/init.d/boinc-client restart
and the GPU will take over from wherever the CPU was; no losses. Now assign the CPU to a different project. Using Jaunty a restart was necessary after a reboot to get the GPU started but it works properly (no extra restart needed) in Lucid.

I've never done this on anything besides Ubuntu so if you're using something different this may not be too much help.

Luck
Roy
2) Message boards : Number crunching : Error message from server?? (Message 7820)
Posted 2811 days ago by Roy Strachan
When accessing the collatz site these messages were on the opening page. Does anyone know what they mean?
I was upgrading the operation systems on my computers from Ubuntu Jaunty to Lucid and all was going well for about a day and a half, then this showed up. Hard to say for sure but it looks like my credits have dropped about 20,000 per day but there are more work units waiting for confirmation so that may not really mean anything.
Never ever seen anything like this before and I am curious. I just started using some low-end CUDA cards and am wondering if they are causing a problem.

Thanks Roy

3) Message boards : Unix/Linux : PC not getting work Ubuntu 9.10???? (Message 7561)

You need to install the cuda app manually.
Download -> http://boinc.thesonntags.com/collatz/power_apps.php

And what, pray tell, is the proper way to do that. I've been trying to get this to work, seems like forever, but have never managed to get a GPU work unit. Any help is appreciated.

I finally got it working thanks to the post by BeemerBiker. Thank you O' Supreme, Great and Wonderful Rider!
I still have 1 unsolved problem.. Occasionally, on any of 3 computers I get a message like Task collatz_xxxx exited with zero status but no 'finished' file
If this happens repeatedly you may need to reset the project. Did the reset but still have the problem.
I also get Task collatz_xxxx: no shared memory segment, However in /etc/sysctl.conf I have kernel.shmmax = 0x7fffffff. This seems to work for Cinelerra, but...
Any suggestions?
