1) Message boards : Number crunching : Are the Collatz WU's gettin bigger? (like abput 10 x) (Message 6850)

I like your idea there on 1-2, would be cool if there were some way to have the server auto-magically select the appropriate size wu's based on the reported run times from each host.

I think we need to stop asking DA for these enhancements, that way he'll think interest in them is gone and after some time passes, he'll come up with some "new never before seen" changes that just happen to be exactly what we've been wanting all along.

the key is we need to make him think it's his idea.
3) Message boards : Number crunching : NVIDIA vs ATI (Message 2565)
Posted 3030 days ago by Liuqyn
I would say its currently much in favor of ATI, my main rig is running 3x GTX285's and just barely doubles the output of ONE of my HD4850s. so about 1000 bucks for the three nvidia's versus about 200 bucks for 2x ATI's for about the same total output, and don't forget the power requirements involved.

sure.... I believe you.. I just wish that host would contact BAM so it will detatch so I can then reattach it. I did set it for CPU only so I won't burn anymore cuda.

It has been awhile since I was attached to BAM, but you can force a contact. Look under the advanced menu ... I know there is a way to have the client contact BAM ...

my problem is getting it to update while I'll 400 miles away. when I get home it'll take all of 15 sec to get it fixed.

same here on my vista64 lappy, except that I then setup the app_info anyway so I could tweak it for my IGP to be more responsive and not use 2/3 of cpu core.
for the record, after tweaking it still runs about the same times but uses very little cpu now and I can actually use the lappy while it's running.
6) Message boards : Number crunching : Official 6.10.5 is still bent (Message 1367)
Posted 3048 days ago by Liuqyn
6.10.6 seams to working ok. installed and didn't immediately start a download frenzy like 6.10.4-5 do.

no comment on the pre-empting issue though as my lappy test mule doesn't run them fast enough.

sure.... put mine at the top of the list... I'm trying to get it stopped from the road so I can look into it when I get home, I'm sure just a reset will fix it.

my problem is I'm trying to detatch and reattach via BAM and one host still hasn't contacted BAM to get the message yet. and I won't be home to do it manually until late tomorrow.

Just completed 1 GPU v2.00 task on my lappy with HD3200 IGP, took 843 secs with 574 sec CPU time as well using roughly 2/3 of one core on my 2.1 Ghz Turion x2. running Vista 64 with cat 9.7 on boinc 6.10.5, no app_info file all downloaded from server without error.
currently running one GPU v2.00 and two CPU v1.11 at the same time.

add--- ran 0.53 cpu + 1 ati gpu

just installed 6.10.5 on my lappy, what's up with the work request? I have it set to connect ever 0 days with additional 0 days buffer, yet it still asks for new work ever minute or so and I have almost 4 days cached now(different project). waiting to try new v2 ati app here when released.

It's on most of my systems and I don't remember putting it in, so was just a thought.

and it would have been in the data directory.

any other project should run without any problems.

is your client not requesting other work?
are you running boinc 6.10+ ?
if so check your cc_config.xml file for the line "<ncpus>0</ncpus>", if present change to "0" to "-1". previous boinc versions read zero as "all available cores" 6.10+ reads it as zero available cores whereas "-1" is all available.
16) Message boards : Number crunching : ATI Application (Message 846)

Hey Mikey,
are you running 32bit windows? if so you need to copy and rename the brook.dll file that came in the opti app zip file to brook32.dll and put both into the project directory.

edit: err my bad, just checked the download links and seen they added it already.
17) Message boards : Number crunching : ATI Application (Message 819)
Posted 3066 days ago by Liuqyn
you should not check GPU only, you should check CPU only, as the CAL device is treated as a CPU not a GPU.

actually, the app_info.xml file overrides this setting, in fact I run it GPU only so when I attach it doesn't download any CPU work and then after I shut down BOINC and add the required files it then downloads work just fine while still having GPU only selected.
