5770 slow...?

Nah, those greenies are even a pity...

my 5850 average around 6+ minutes, after OC it's now at 5:45...

Anyone here already crunching on the new Radeon 6800 series...?
7) Message boards : Number crunching : 1GB vs 2GB VRAM...? (Message 10147)

Does the increase in VRAM helps in speeding up collatz...? Or is it just a waste of money...?
8) Message boards : Number crunching : BOINC client says WU aborted by project, CC webbie says client detached (Message 10105)

I've just got 149 WUs suddenly Aborted by Project, but when I check the results on CC web, it says Client Detached. What gives...?

I would also favor donations like what SETI@home's doing, rather than having ads contaminating my Accounts page, (or perhaps literally every page within this domain).

Man I thought DNETC web being filled with Google Ads is annoying... Why is Collatz following the footsteps of DNETC...?
11) Message boards : Number crunching : Is this long running WU bad? (Message 9887)

Running Windows? If so, does it still cause problems after benchmarking with with the latest 2.05 app? That was the main purpose of 2.05 and I haven't gotten an answer yet as to whether it works or not. It is supposed to catch the sigterm sigal, free up the GPU resources, and exit nicely when the benchmarks kick in and suspend everything. The question is, does it work.

2.05...? Does this only fixed the benchmark problem on CUDA...? Coz mine happens on an ATI card. Pardon me, I didn't notice the OP was on an nVidia card... My apologies.

From my experience WUs get stuck every time after BOINC benchmarks the CPU. If you pay attention to it, BOINC Manager benchmarks CPU every 5 days by itself, so for any stuck WU without your knowledge, crunching time get wasted in the end.

So I would recommend manually triggering CPU benchmark, say, maybe 4.5 days after your last manual benchmark to avoid unattended CPU benchmarks.

I have not seen many who can do it much faster, the overclocked one just ran at 900/1300(5200).
And i can tell you guys the 5000 series are easy overclockable cards, with a bit time you get very nice results

I used to have one Sapphire 5870 Vapor-X rev1 which I'd overvoltaged and overclocked to 1000/1400, averaged around 295 seconds. Sadly budget hadn't permit its keeping.

I have a dual Nvidia setup (9600 GSO and 8800 GS) running fine with an old Pent D 830 dual core with PrimeGrid crunching away on the CPU. I notice no performance hit at all on either GPU or CPU, so assuming that yours is a more modern dual-core, I doubt that you will find any notable slowdowns.

Thank you.

I just upgraded my video card. The increase in performance is outstanding.
OLD ATI Radeon HD 2600xt 256Mb 1:43:53 per WU
NEW Sapphire Radeon HD 5670 1Gb 0:21:52 per WU

I got that beat.

OLD: 6800gt 256MB INFINITY per WU (could not crunch)
NEW: 2x5870 1GB ea. ~0:07:06 per 2 WUs

from the caves to now can see the penthouse with binoculars.

Is that a 2-core GPU on a single card sharing 1GB, or 2 separate cards..?

A single stock 5870 does a WU in 5.5 minutes, less than 5 if overclocked.

I think I skipped over 2 generations of video cards. Now Boinc says 31:50 per WU. Thats about three times faster than before. If the budgeting committee (wife) had allotted $50 more I could have gotten a 58xx GPU.

You may have better luck with a 58xx GPU once the 6000-series GPUs are out, prices are coming down.

I don't enable crossfire but most of my boxes are dual GPU. Three of those are dual ATI, 1 is dual NVidia and 1 is mixed ATI and NVidia. There are absolutely no performance issues at all in Collatz, MW or GPUGRID. Dual setups are a bit flaky in DNETC but that's because they insist on running multiple GPUs/WU on their brain dead client that they're unable to fix. WUs on the aforementioned 3 projects with dual setups run just as fast per GPU as those on the singles.

Thank you for the input. My primary concern is with dual GPU output (whether or not it is crossfired) in relation to CPU. From the list of top hosts I've seen a lot of dual or more GPU setups utilising quad-core or more CPUs, so my worry here is will my dual-core CPU be able to fed 2 GPUs efficiently on Collatz knowing that the CPU is already sweating from Einstein.

Just curious, will I run into performance issue if I throw in a crossfire of 5770s on a dual-core CPU setup...? My CPU power is dedicated to Einstein@home...?
