There will be CAL/IL ! But no more CAL C-Source like cal.h etc !!!!

AMD need CAL because OpenCL is linked against it (OpenGL->CAL->OpenCL funny way of linking)
3) Message boards : Number crunching : Minor Update for the new AMD Radeons/FireGL/FireStream needed (Message 11092)

Yeah, that one is done on the client side and i see no reason at all to recompile the apps for such a useless info,which has no impact on performance at all...

anyway, if you're really keen on doing it right, do something like that...

case 8:
if(attribs.numberOfSIMD ==20)
{
gpu_name="ATI Radeon HD 5870 (RV870 XT)";
}
if(attribs.numberOfSIMD ==18)
{
gpu_name="ATI Radeon HD 5850 (RV870 PRO)";
}
if(attribs.numberOfSIMD ==14)
{
gpu_name="ATI Radeon HD 5830 (RV870 LE)";
}

And besides that, someone over at berkeley should think about exporting the ATI/AMD GPU identification to a dll...that would make more sense than hardcoding it into the client source....

That would only work partly because:

A targetID of 8 with "attribs.numberOfSIMD ==20" could be:
- ATI Radeon HD 5870
- ATI Radeon HD 5970
- ATI FirePro 3D V8800
- ATI FirePro 3D V9800

A targetID of 9 with "attribs.numberOfSIMD ==10" could be:
- Radeon HD 5770
- FirePro 3D V5800
- FirePro M7820
- Radeon HD 6870M
- Mobility Radeon HD 5830
- Mobility Radeon HD 5850
- Mobility Radeon HD 5870
..

Because "PM" sometimes wont work - I wrote this forum thread!

AMD (not ATI !!!!) released some new GPU-Familys which are identifed as ATI unknown at the moment.

The Admim should add following lines to the app so the new GPUs/IPGs/APUs are "identified"

based on the CAL_Target_ID taken from calDeviceGetAttribs:

case CAL_TARGET_770:
gpu_name="ATI Radeon HD 4700/4800 (RV740/RV770)";
break;
case 8:
gpu_name="ATI Radeon HD 5800 series (Cypress)";
break;
case 9:
gpu_name="ATI Radeon HD 5700 series (Juniper)";
break;
case 10:
gpu_name="ATI Radeon HD 5x00 series (Redwood)";
break;
case 11:
gpu_name="ATI Radeon HD 5x00 series (Cedar)";
break;
//
// based on AMD's Stream SDK 2.3 shipped with AMD Catalyst 10.12 APP
//
// and by comments of Dr. Andreas Przystawik aka Gipsel at http://www.planet3dnow.de/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=4335830#post4335830
//
//
// added new/current/coming AMD RADEON GPUs/IGPs/APUs
case 12:
gpu_name="AMD SUMO";
break;
case 13:
gpu_name="AMD SUPERSUMO";
break;
case 14:
gpu_name="AMD Radeon HD 6250/6310 (Wrestler)";
break;
case 15:
gpu_name="AMD Radeon HD 6900 series (Cayman)";
break;
case 16:
gpu_name="AMD RESERVED2";
break;
case 17:
gpu_name="AMD Radeon HD 6800 series (Barts)";
break;
case 18:
gpu_name="AMD Radeon HD 6x00 series (Turks)";
break;
case 19:
gpu_name="AMD Radeon HD 6300 series (Caicos)";
break;
// there arent any other target ids inside the Shadercompiler (YET !!! )

This code is also added to the boinc-source and will be in the next BOINC Manager (6.12.10) ...

The 12 - Sumo - is the Fusion APU inside LLano
The 13 - SuperSumo - is an other Fusion APU ...
The 14 - Wrestler - is the Fusion APU inside Bobcat / Brazos-Platform
The 16 - is unknow but with DP-Support (needed for Milkyway@home)

I also "fixed" a minor bug - all old Radeons are identified as "Radeon HD xxxx" but the 5000-series as "Radeon HD5xxx" -> changed to "Radeon HD 5xxx" !

So please admin(s) - add the missing lines to the AMD-Collatz-APP so we dont have to read "ATI unknown"

ps there arent any new ATI Radeons - all new GPUs (Barts, Turks, Cayman, ...) are named AMD Radeon !!!

create a cc_config.xml with notepad to be stored in the boinc data folder, content:

<cc_config>
<options>
<use_all_gpus>1</use_all_gpus>
</options>
</cc_config>

restart boinc

You could/should try Ati Catalyst 9.9 from http://support.amd.com/de/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonmob_win7-64.aspx

But dont use/install BOINC as a service !
9) Message boards : Number crunching : The server needs more disk space ... (Message 3849)

Well I get a lot of "... No space left on device"

So the server need a bigger disk or system has to check and delete finished WUs faster ...
10) Message boards : Number crunching : Small problem... (Host connects to server too often) (Message 3186)
Posted 3006 days ago by [P3D] Crashtest
Option g):

the user could create scripts:

1st script:
enable boinc network activity
let boinc upload/download WUs

2nd script:
disable boinc network activity

and use Windows task scheduler to start script 1; let it wait 10min to start script 2; let it wait ? to 10h to start script 1 again ....

The ATI 5870 got 1600 Shader cores; the 5850 got 1440.

The GT300 is still a PAPER - nVIDIA didnt present a work sample - so nVIDIA Fans will have to wait ... up to 6months

14) Message boards : Number crunching : What is CAL Runtime ? (Message 2322)
Posted 3032 days ago by [P3D] Crashtest
CAL Runtime (DLL)
is the ATI API for GPGPU ... like CUDA for nVIDIA

and its inside:

Windows or Windows x64
amdcalcl.dll or amdcalcl64.dll
amdcaldd.dll or amdcaldd64.dll
amdcalrt.dll or amdcalrt64.dll
if youre using Catalyst 9.1 or older

or
aticalcl.dll or aticalcl64.dll
aticaldd.dll or aticaldd64.dll
aticalrt.dll or aticalrt64.dll
if youre using Catalyst 9.2 or newer

Versions:
there are many versions:

1.3.xxx - this is an older Version - amdcal*
1.4.xxx - this is the newer Version - atical*

1.4.403 - is inside Catalyst 9.9
1.4.427 - is inside Catalyst 9.10 (rc?/beta)

To update the CAL runtime dll's, you need to update your Catalyst Drivers ... the 9.10 isnt public - only leaked Betas or RCs.. but the final version of Catalyst 9.10 will include the new 1.4.427.

I'm using both - the 9.9 (403) and the 9.10 (427) on my PCs..

Posted 3034 days ago by [P3D] Crashtest
All ATI-GPUs disappeard in the hosts_user.php and top_hosts.php:

There were a lot of ATI GPUs before the server update, but now I cant see any ATI Coprocs here - so what happend to the server ?

I'm using Boinc 6.10.9 and 6.10.10, scheduler reports coproc_ati but they dont appear in the pages ?!?
18) Message boards : Number crunching : BOINC 6.10.10 special for collatz with ATI GPU (Message 2115)
Posted 3035 days ago by [P3D] Crashtest
Well all ATI-GPUs got "lost" inside http://boinc.thesonntags.com/collatz/hosts_user.php

both ATI-Systems got Cat. 9.9 and Boinc 6.10.10 but since the server update - the hosts page doesnt show ATI GPUs

and you lost all ATI GPUs on http://boinc.thesonntags.com/collatz/top_hosts.php too ... ?
